- Great lens! I've been using linux for almost 10 years and I think parts of this were the best explanation I've seen of what does what.
It's a shame that squidoo doesn't let you change fonts so you could set the commands in a different font - maybe italicising them would make things clearer?

- A pretty comprehensive beginners guide, and I noted a hat tipped towards vi too! Have you read any Eric S Raymond?

- Thank you! I hope that people enjoy the lens and learn some new things. Yeah, I use vi(m) a lot. Takes a while to get used to but after a while you can get so much done with it :) Haven't read Erics stuff yet...its still on my list.

- Have you tried Rhythmbox or Amarok? I think they handle Ipods and other mobile devices.

- Good lens for beginners - it does take a while for the XP user to understand " you control all of Linux and you tell it what to do. I do wish a GUI would be more user friendly. The only time people will really see Linux as viable is when it can auto handle Itunes and WMA files to their portable music players.

- Many of the commands above have a single dash but need a double dash in them. for example, dpkg -set-selections should be dpkg --set-selections.
Thanks for the information, this is really helpful.
