The concept of liquid diets is to reduce the intake of all solid food all and to supplement the much needed nutrients to body by consuming it by drink. Main ingredients for any Liquid Diet are either fruit juices or veggie juices but can also include clear broths and soups.

1) Clear Liquid Diet: This diet is usually recommended to people of pre or post operative procedure, Digestive problems and the aim to provide the body the required caloric requirement without having to strain the digestive system

2) Full liquid Diet: The diet helps replace the requirement of the consumption of by ensuring the body gets all the required nutrients, proteins all required by the body to function

Its not recommend to be on a liquid diet for a very long time however, a full liquid diet is the better diet to consider if you decide the be on a juice fast for while.

Important things to remember when on a Liquid Diet

Remember you've been on solid foods for the longest time and that when you start a liquid diet your body with go through and adjustment period. Below are some points to remember

1) Consult your doctor especially if you have any pre-existing conditions.
2) Work with a nutritionist or dietitian while on a liquid diet
3) Constantly check your weight and blood sugar levels.
4) have atleast 6 - 7 drinks a day and plenty of water
5) If you've been on a Liquid Diet for over 7 -10 days don't immediately switch to Solid foods, ensure you start with raw veggies and salads first in small quantities first.
6) Avoid intensive workouts while on diet as this may actually harm you
7) short walks will help loose the weight faster and still keep you healthy

  • Alternative liquid diet--Pick one kind of plain flavored yougurt (Greek, Maple Brown Cow, etc.) Eat only that. At first when you're really hungry you can eat all you want, because you might tend to overeat it will digest fairly fast and you won't be sick to your stomach for hours. After a day or two your stomach adapts and you won't be hungry all the time and you won't eat as much. Because you're eating the same thing all day, every day, after the first couple days you'll start to only eat when you're really hungry not just bored.With normal activity you'll lose 3-5 pounds a week (when you're heavier you'll lose more) With all liquid diets you might want to supplement with some metamucil (about half to a full tablespoon in water about 7pm)
