I am of Maori descent and have a strong connection to the East Coast of New Zealand.

In Maori we use the Pepeha to introduce ourselves. It is like a story about how we arrived here.

We are all children of the land, oceans and our ancestors so the story does not start with ourselves but back in time where we anchor ourselves. Starting with the mountain our ancestors arrived at after crossing the ocean and the rivers they followed to the district where they settled. From there we identify the Marae(sacred place) that our Grandparents come from and then finally ouselves.
