Lisadh Lensography

What's lisadh writing about on Squidoo?

I started writing articles on Squidoo in 2007. I had no idea at that time how many nice people I'd meet here, how much money I could make for myself and raise for charity, or how addicting Squidoo would become. More than 300 pages later, I've discovered a nice supplemental income and some awards I never expected, including being nominated for the 2008 Giant Squid Awards, having two of my lenses chosen as Lens of the Day (Women Presidents and Prime Ministers and Unique and Alternative Gift ideas) and sometimes appearing on the Top 100 Rated Lensmasters. I've also had six lenses make it into the top 100, one that has received over 500,000 visits, seven that have received purple stars and one that has spent more than 250 days in the top 100.

AND best of all, I've been able to donate more than $1600 from my Squidoo earnings to some very worthy charities, including Room to Read, the Polly Klass Foundation, A Day of Hope, Earthjustice and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

I guess I must be doing something right. :-)

I never planned to become addicted. But now that I've started, I'm hooked. My birthday is just after Christmas, which is my favorite holiday, so I have quite a few pages on that topic, but I also write articles about nearly anything and everything that crosses my mind. So here's my lensography that showcases some of the pages I've built so far. Enjoy!

What's New or Updated

What I've been writing about lately

During the holidays, I have a lot of pages related to products, but this is not my focus all year long.

The Lens I'm Most Passionate About

A serious topic near and dear to my heart

Fair warning - if you want to see all the FUN lenses I've done on topics ranging from silly Christmas songs to the first hot air balloon (did you know that three farm animals were the occupants?), then skip this section. But if you want to know which lens I am most proud of and which I think is my very best, then please visit the lens below on Dissociative Identity Disorder.

It has never won a coveted Squidoo purple star, never made it to the top 100, and never been at the top of my own list in terms of traffic, but it is far and away the most important page I have written on Squidoo and the one that has received some of the most meaningful feedback from readers. For those of you who don't know, DID is the condition formally known as Multiple Personality Disorder, and someone very dear to me has it. It won't entertain or amuse you, but I do hope it will educate you.

My Other Favorites

They're not necessarily the most popular, but I love 'em

Next to my lens on DID, these are some of my other favorites. They're not necessarily the most trafficked pages, but they're the ones I think are the most informative, best written, or most important. Some other folks seem to agree, as two of them have won awards - Lens of the Day for Women Presidents and a purple star for Help End World Hunger. My FitDesk page hasn't won any awards and isn't that exciting to read, but I LOVE this bike and now write all of my articles while riding it, so I'm including it among my favorites.

Toward a Better World

I love the fact that Squidoo encourages people to give a part of their earnings to charity. I donate a percentage of earnings from most lenses to charity, but 100% from the following lenses goes to nonprofit organizations working to make the world a better place. To date (October 2011), I've donated more than $1600 to charities through my Squidoo earnings.

I Belong to the SquidKiva Team

Change a life for as little as $25

One of the things I like about Squidoo is that it reminds me to be charitable.

When I was younger, single, and didn't have a mortgage and kids, I helped build a community center in Guatemala and spent several months volunteering with a nonprofit organization that plants trees in India and other developing nations. Now, I give more in money than minutes, and it's much too easy in my busy life to temporarily forget how people struggle to survive in so many parts of the world. I like the fact that Squidoo helps me remember those less fortunate and do something about it by donating a portion of my Squidoo earnings to charity each month.

There are also a great many lensmasters on Squidoo who come up with ideas to improve our world that go beyond just sharing a portion of their Squidoo earnings to charity. Kab is one of those lensmasters. She came up with the idea for SquidKiva, which is a Kiva lending team. Kiva, if you're not familiar with it, is a wonderful site that allows folks to make "micro loans" to people in developing nations to enable them to start or grow their own business. My Squidoo earnings have helped me make 22 loans since joining SquidKiva. As soon as one loan is repaid, I turn around and loan that money to someone else. It's an easy way to help someone improve their own life.

So far, Team SquidKiva members have loaned more than $8000. Our goal for 2011 is to hit $11,000. Please join us and help make it happen!!

My Favorite Tool for Squidoo and Internet Marketing

My Most Controversial Lens

Sure to inspire a reaction!

I don't have a lot of lenses that I'd consider controversial, but gay marriage always incites passionate debate on both sides of the issue. You may think you've heard all you need to know about the topic, but have you heard how much money a U.S. government analysis said the federal government would save (yes, I said save) by legalizing gay marriage? That little piece of trivia alone is enough reason to read this lens.

My Christmas Websites

I started my first website, Christmas Letter Tips.com on a lark back in 2004 because I was appalled at a horribly depressing and poorly written Christmas letter someone in my family had received, was making fun of (rightfully so!) and passing around for others to do the same. I wanted to save others from making those same mistakes. The site offered some tips on writing Christmas letters and provided free Santa letter examples.

I really didn't do much with the site, so it pretty much sat on the web virtually unchanged until I finally decided to revamp it in 2009 as a blog with articles about all things Christmas and printable Santa letters and Christmas letter templates. I also offer printable letters from Santa Claus at Christmas Letter from Santa.net.

While I was in the website-building mode, I also launched two new Christmas blogs, Santa's North Pole Zone and Funny-Christmas.com, as well as two Zazzle-based sites, Christmas Kitty.com and Christmas Postage Stamps.net. They're all still works in progress, as I'm just learning the blogging ropes, so if you have feedback, please feel free to leave comments on them!
