Why I Love Writing Poetry

So why DO I love writing poetry? Nothing else makes me happier. When I wake up at 3:00 a.m. because the rhymes, rythms, forms and structures are calling me insistently, I actually love it.

I live for the moment when the imperfect feeling turns into the perfect phrase and becomes universally understandable.

Here's a selection of some of my favorites. Enjoy!

Peace and Satisfaction

Peace and Satisfaction

Help me go inside
The stillness in my mind
What do I fear to find?
Your Peace

But yet, how can I fear
Your Love, so close, so dear
What do I fear to hear?
Your Voice

But how can I run from
The unity of One
The soul continuum
So deep?

Cannot run, cannot hide
Cannot move, can't decide
Neither passion, pain, nor pride
Is strong enough
To stop Your Love
To hide Your Love
To push Your Love
Away
To keep my soul
From being whole
To push Your Love
Away

What's mine, what's mine?
Your Love Divine
It's mine, it's mine
Your Love Divine!
I claim, proclaim
My Joy, Your Name

My God,
You satisfy me.

Number 13 Love

My version of "Unlucky in Love".

Number 13 Love

One day,
Eventually,
I'm gonna give it up
That number 13 love
(Why did you hurt me love?)
It hurted
But still I blurted
"I love you desperately,
Love"

One day,
Eventually,
I'm gonna give it up
That number 13 love
(Why did you hurt me love?)
Why did you slam me love,
With your gritty, gangrene love?
That self-esteem-rotting
Self-defense-clotting
He loves me! No,
He loves me not
Love

One day,
Eventually,
I'm gonna give it up
That number 13 love
(Why did you hurt me love?)
It hurts, it
Ain't worth it
But still I flirt with it
Love

One day,
Eventually,
I'm gonna give it up
That number 13 love
That's too much hurt for me, love
The power struggle
Crossing-double
Too much trouble
Bursting bubble
of
Love
I'm not a victim
I'm the one picked him
So I've made a decision.
Now I'm the one ditching
My
Love

In The Midst of My Bliss

My personal "peace mantra".

In the Midst of My Bliss

I am at the heart of my Universe
I am in the midst of my Bliss
I am contented
And deep at my Center
I am so grateful for this

I am at the heart of my Universe
I am in the midst of my Bliss
I am connected
And deep at my Center
I have the answer to this

I am at the heart of my Universe
I am in the midst of my Bliss
I am transcendent
And deep at my Center
I know only heaven exists

The Feast

Tale of a good love gone bad, or a bad love gone worse.

The Feast

Have you ever known a
Dangerous man?

That's the kinda guy who has
A red velvet couch
And a UV light
In his room in his Momma's house
Credit's off-track
Wears only black
Earring in eyebrow
Tattoo on back
And a minimal attention span...
That's a portrait of a
Dangerous man

Have you ever known a
Dangerous love?

That's the kind of love that just
Sucks your blood
And leaves you dry
Yet you ALWAYS stand by your guy
For the same vampire
That bleeds you dry
The same vampire
That makes you cry
That same vampire,
I testify
Makes you feel you're flying high
Like you and him fit hand in glove
(I mean, between friends, what's a little shove?)
That's a portrait of a
Dangerous love

Have you ever known a
Dangerous heart?

That's the kind of heart you have:
Painfully addicted
Desperately needy
You're caviar and he's lean cuisine
Of course, you don't see that
You never, never see
That you got bitten
Because you asked
That limb by limb you be
Ripped apart
That's a portrait of a
Dangerous heart

And him?

He's gorged on your ordained defeat
For you can never quite compete
With the squelching thrill of that
First
Fresh
Bite

So don't even try...

Instead:
Beware, my child,
For this is the
Nature of
The Beast

And you?

Child,
you
are
The Feast
