A registered nurse works to promote health, disease prenvetion and to help patients cope with illnesses along with develop and manage nursing care plans and such.
Currently, the nursing Industry in the U.S. is experiencing a nursing shortage that will intesnsify as baby boomers age.
Almost 3 out of 5 jobs were in hospitals, in inpatient and outpatient departments. Others worked in offices of physicians, nursing care facilities, home healthcare services, employment services, government agencies, and outpatient care centers.
The remainder worked mostly in social assistance agencies and educational services, public and private. About 1 in 5 RNs worked part time.

Due to the shortage of nurses, hospitals and health care services are aggressively on the lookout for nurses and often turn to head hunters that specialize in finding all types of nurses.This turn of event has given more bargaining power for a nures when it comes time for a salary increase or benefits package as nurses can afford to be pickier about choosing a job.
Today, even private medical offices are in need of nurses. Since the economy is not at it's best, many private clinics are opting to hire travel nurses.
