Top Ergonomic Desk Chairs Revealed!

Here I'm going to reveal some of the top ergonomic office chairs available on the market today. Not only do you need to look at the price, but also all of the functions available on the chair so that you body will feel comfortable while sitting for 8 hours or more a day. So treat this as a very important decision!

After picking a certain model chair - you also need to pick the size that matches your body. Look at all the functions you care about. Then figure out if you should buy used or new - since buying used will mean saving a lot of money. The benefit of buying new, though, is that you will get the full warranty in case something goes wrong in the future. Most of these chairs come with a 10 year or more warranty.

As you can see, picking an ergonomic chair is a big time decision!

Without further ado here are the top 10 office chairs.

Ergonomic desk chairs ranked by me

1. Herman Miller Aeron Chair - the top dog in ergonomic office seating

2. Steelcase Leap Chair - a strong contender

3. Humanscale Freedom Chair - another top contender

4. Herman Miller Embody Chair - the successor to the Aeron, billed as the next big thing in ergonomic office seating

5. Steelcase Think Chair - Leap chair successor by Steelcase

6. Herman Miller Mirra Chair - lower cost than the Aeron, very popular

7. Humanscale Liberty Chair - successor to the Freedom chair

8. Herman Miller Celle Chair - (herman miller chairs make a lot of these top chairs, eh?) - lower cost than Mirra & Aeron

9. Knoll Life Chair - don't discount the Life Chair, a pretty good offering by Knoll

10. Steelcase Amia Chair - the newest offering from Steelcase, comfortable & easy to use

There we have it - the best office chair ranked (according to me - a non-professional with strong opinions about ergonomic chairs, I guess) - you can't really go wrong with any of these chairs. The decision ultimately depends on how much you're willing to spend - most of these chairs will cost more than $400 and the top ones will run you around $1000+.

The question of how MUCH better a $1000 ergonomic chair is versus a $500 one is debatable. The top ones will have more knobs & levers (ie: highly adjustable aeron chair by herman miller) and every part of the chair will be adjustable to your needs. The lower end ones will be comfortable and will definitely be an upgrade compared to the $80 office chair you'll find at Staples.

My opinion is that if you're buying an ergonomic desk chair for your home office, then stick to one of the mid-end ones because you will not be sitting around for a long period of time. If you are an office manager for a big corporation, you can buy the top end ergonomic chairs and it will be tax deductible as office expense - thus lowering your end of year profit corporate taxes.

A second option I really favor is buying a used/refurb top end ergonomic desk chair - thus you can enjoy a top end ergonomic chair for the price of a mid-end one - if your mind can handle the fact you're buying a used chair (which shouldn't be a big deal anyways!) - just like buying a used luxury car versus a new one which will cost you almost double.

There we have it! Happy shopping!
