Building an optin list is very important. That said the question is what is an optin list. An optin list is a list of persons name and email addresses. Some marketers also gather other information such as address, phone numbers, IP addresses & etc. These additional items are not so important for marketing purposes but they are needed is you questiones as to where you gathered the information from. There are two kinds of optins the single and the double. The single optin only asked for information from you once and the other (the double) also confirmed that they indeed want the information from you.

That said, you probably have gathered a hint as to how we build a optin list. The basic concept is that you offer some type of information and if folks are interested in the information you are offering they are told to enter their personal information in a form provided for the purpose and click to enter the information. That person is now single optined and if you want to have a double optin list you instruct the receiving party to go to the email address inbox that they used in the form and receive a message to validate their email address and indeed are interested in receiving your information. When this is complete they are double optined . When you have received this revalidation message you then send them a message with information on how they are to receive the promised information.

This information can be in the form of a newsletter, report, ebook (electronic book),software or graphic . The method normally used to make these offers are by advertising in paid advertising sites, free advertising sites, other marketers optin lists (JV)or lead generation program.

Sending email to just anyone that you are able to find an email address for is against the law and considered SPAM. Every person you mail to must have given permission to receive information from you, your JV partner or lead generation program. If you send out email messages to anyone else you will reported to your Service Provider and possibly others and you will be punished.

Almost anything would work as a freebie to get the sign up to your list. You do however, want to offer something that is relevent to the gist of your list. Don't offer a ebook on lawnmower repair to a subscriber that is opting into a list about marketing. Be sure that the freebie is a perfect piece of the puzzle to get TARGETED traffic on your list. I like to use a report that I have written so it is unique to the web or an ebook about the targeted subject. You can also use software that can be useful to someone that is working in that niche. By the way, Just what is a niche? Well I'm glad you asked. A niche is a highly targeted segment of a subject. WHAT? If the subject is lawnmowers than a niche could be narrowed down to a rideing lawnmower or even a smaller niche a articulated steering riding lawnmower.

OK, we have our freebie figured out now what? The next thing is you have to create some web pages and link all the pieces together. Here is the order of the things that you need.---first is the ad you are going to put into a advertising media to attract your prospect subscriber--in that ad is a link that takes the prospect to your squeeze page (don't get excited now we will go into that later.)---the prospect puts their name and email address in the form and clicks the enter button and they are taken to the---thank you page where they are instructed to go to the email address inbox and get their validation message and send in their validation link---they then are sent a email directing them to click on a link to be taken to the download page---then they are instructed on how to get the freebie and if they might need some type of media to access the freebie such as ZIP or ADOBE READER they are given links to those.

It seems like is a lot of hoops to jump through for you and the prospect just to get some old freebie but it is your job to make the entire operation go quickly and seamlessly so as to not scare off the prospect. If they run into any kind of roadblock they are probably going to hit the delete button and be gone. First off, a giveaway is a script website that a person owns and the owner invites others to donate products to his website to be given to others. There are a lot of behind the scenes things that are going on in all the different giveaways. This type of list building program was fairly new a couple of years ago but now there is approx. 4-8 of them going on at any one time.

You fill in an application to join the program and when approved you upload your product. Different programs have different software or scripts so they vary on how to get your product up on the site. First off you have to set up your product on your own computer. In participate you have to have a picture of the product you are giving away stored on your computer usually in GIF or JPG format. You then should file all of these items in the same folder on your computer. I store the name of the product-picture-description-link to the index (sign up)page-link to the direct download of the product.

Your product has to either be a product that your have produced or one that someone else produced and has given permission for it to be given away. You have to read the disclosures in the product and see what is allowed. Resell Rights products are rarely allowed to be given away. Private Label Rights are sometimes permitted to be given away. You must be sure you have the permission before you put it on the giveaway site. I usually go to the product page and find a picture that I can use and store that then I copy the title to a notepad and if there is an ad for the product somewhere there is probably material in the ad you can use in your description which I write and copy to the notepad. Now for the hard part. You have to make 2 web pages the squeeze page and the download and thank you page. I usually find a graphic on the product site where I can use like a header or product graphic on the web pages.
I being cheap use free FTP & web page editor. I use smart FTP and NVU editor. You maybe will find these features in your hosting service program if you get used to using those. I open the NVU program and type in my headline-sub headline short description-about 5-6 bullet point features or benefits and then you need an optin in box at the bottom. To do this you should put something on your page like (Box Goes Here) where you want it to go so when you go to that hated HTML mode you can find where you want the box to be. You then go to your hosting account I use the best (Aweber) and open a new campaign for this product. If your product is a ebook called "How to Build A Optin List" then call your campaign htbaoptinlist or something like that you have to see how many letters you can have in the campaign name. It only is seen by you when the autoresponder sends you a message that someone has signed up to that list. Then follow instructions on how to get optin box code for that campaign and copy that on your mouse. Then go to the NVU page again and click on HTML view and look where you put the (box goes here) near the bottom of the HTML code and click the right button on the mouse and then click paste where you just erased the (Box Goes here) notation. When you display the review mode it should have the optin box at the page bottom. Then you can put final instructions like we will protect your personal information and your copyright. Then you are ready to save that to your folder. Save it as (index). The download or thank you page (combination) can use the same graphic some thank you text and the download instructions. You then need to inbed a link for the subscriber to get the download. Save this page as (thankyou). Now you have to upload those 2 pages to your hosting account I use (Gator). I add the links to those pages on my notepad. OK. Now you have the following on the notepad
1.Giveaway product title
2.Description
3.Index page link to display it from your web host
4.Thank you or download page
5.Ecover or picture of the product and the link to display it from you web host
6.Direct download link (often asked for my program owner so they can do followup if someone says they are having trouble with the download link or have lost it.)
7.I often use tinyurl to shorten the above links and store them under their original link so I can use them where they will show in a email address or etc. Usually the links do not show on giveaway sites so I send them the normal link.

I often use these same product set ups in email ads as list builders also.
