Listen to Free Music Online

Can You Find Free Music Online?

I love music and like to listen to free music online anywhere I am. Over the past few years, I've discovered quite a few great online music services and online music stations. Top on my online music stations list is Pandora. In fact, this is one of the few online services I pay for. My wife bought me a subscription just about a year ago. It is called Pandora One. But the free version is nearly as great and available at any time.

There are two great benefits to Pandora One.

First, you get ad-free music! This makes the music listening experience much more enjoyable. You never get interrupted by ads.
Second, you get higher-quality music when you listen.
How much does a Pandora One subscription cost? Pandora One is just $36 per year. Of course, the free Pandora version is always available and pretty great, too.

Jango - Free Music

Internet Radio That Plays What You Want

Jango LogoI've also used Jango a few times. It has a nice interface and some great social features. It is super easy to create new stations based on artists that you like. Jango's social features are prominent and it is easy to like songs on Facebook or Twitter. Jango also has a nice feature where you can easily find the song lyrics for whatever you are listening to. At the same time, Jango can seem cluttered at time.
Jango is also available for the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android phones.

Google Music

Another Take on Online Streaming Music

Google MusicGoogle Music is different in that you listen to your own music online using this service. This means you must upload all of the music on your computer to the Google Music site. Their is a downloadable program to automate this process. The program then runs in the background on your computer and syncs your music as necessary. In addition, you must have a Google account to use this free service.

One of the huge benefits of Google Music is that they consistently offer free songs. I recently added an exclusive live track from the 1973 Rolling Stones tour, among many other songs, all for free.

You can take a virtual tour of the Google Music service by visiting this page.

Some Other Not Free Music Services

Spotify Could Be a Great One

There are other online music services out there that are not free. The most popular right now might be Spotify.

Though Spotify does have a free version, it is only available for download to PC or MAC. I would have to pay for the service to listen to it on my iPod and I find it too expensive. You have to join at the $9.99/month level to listen on your mobile device.

The coolest Spotify feature is that you can listen to songs on demand, as opposed to Pandora, Jango or the other services, where you don't have control of each song, only over the general genre of the station.

Rhapsody

Unlimited Music. Anywhere You Go.

Rhapsody LogoRhapsody is another music subscription service. It costs $9.99 per month also. There is a 14-day trial available. A bit too much for me. You are also limited to just one mobile device at the $9.99 plan. You have to upgrade to $14.99 per month to listen on up to three mobile devices.
