What's this all about?

Hello. My name is Lewis, and I am very pleased to meet you.

And I would like to share with you how to put sound into your lens, just like this thunder and lightening recording:

Your browser dows not support iFrames. Sorry!

"What can I insert?"

I could have inserted any mp3 file (the wav ones go a bit weird on my computer).

So I could have put some music there. Maybe the Spice Girls. Or a sound effect, like the thunder and lightening or someone saying "Ow!" after bumping their head on a door frame.

Or even a welcome message with me saying things like "Hello My Darling Readers and listeners. Welcome to my lens! I made this lens about this because... be sure to shoot me an email... be sure to check out this link... don't forget to RATE THIS LENS... and be sure to tell everyone you know that Dani is amazing..."

While I think of it, darling reader, why not rate this lens with a big fat 5*?

I would love you forever if you did. Not that my love for you is conditional. I would just love you EVEN MORE if you did.

Also, (and this is a secret), you were always my favourite lensmaster. I've always thought you were better than all those other lensmasters.

Oh, just rate it will you!!

"What do I need to have to be able to do this myself?"

The good news is this - you don't need loads of technical knowledge.

If you can make a lens, you definitely know enough to add audio to it.

The bad news is this - you need to go now and find a place where you can host a file, and a webpage. If you have a website already, with web hosting, you've got this one covered.

If you haven't, we now have to think of some other clever things to do. Do you have a friend who has a website? A relative? Do you have a niece or nephew who would know about this kind of thing? All you need to get someone to do is host 2 files for you. One HTM file (a nearly-blank webpage), and one SWF file (the play buttons and the sound all rolled into one).

There are plenty of companies out there who will host your website for free (there are a couple listed below), but they will insert adverts on any pages you make. And this will mess up the iFrame. So the best thing to do is to find someone who can help you.

Give them a call now, maybe.

Unsure?

I'm going to assume that if you're reading this module, then you either have your own web hosting (for your website) or have secured a teeny tiny slice of the web hosting of somebody you know.

Good.

The next step is to learn what makes those fancy play and stop buttons, and what gets them playing sounds for you.

Introducing, Web Audio Plus...

Web Audio Plus

Web Audio Plus is a cool piece of software which allows you to make little flash files containing your sounds, songs, or voice, and have them play when the play button is pressed.

There are no monthly fees for this, and you can use it as many times as you like. You can get the software right now for $10 by clicking here.

I bought the software from www.webaudioplus.com for $37.00 and got the rights to reduce the price for other people. Which is why it's only 10 (through this link), not 37.

The step by step images of Web Audio Plus are on that page, so you'll see how it's easy to use.

Once you've got the software, and ocne you've followed along with the cool instruction video that comes with it, and got that teeny tiny slice of someone's webhosting, all you then need to know about are iFrames.

UPDATE! Software is cheaper on ebay

Don't get the software from the link above. It is cheaper on ebay!

Using iFrames

There is a thing called an iFrame.

An iFrame is a little piece of code which lets you insert one webpage into the body of another.

One example of this is at the bottom of the Squidoo Travel Group. Angela has cleverly used an iFrame to insert the list of all the lenses in the group. You can them move about the list page as if you were really there. That's an iFrame in action.

Jeff knows more about this than I do, so I am going to send you to his lens about iFrames because he has posted a handy little gadget which will help you generate your own iFrame code.

Once you have your own handy iFrame code, to insert the page you made with your audio play button on, you need to add the code to a Write Module on your lens.

Then you sit back, relax, and enjoy the sweet sound of a job well done...

CLARIFICATION:

To clarify, once you've followed the video tutorial in the web audio plus software, and you've created your sound file and play buttons (all easy, and in the tutorial), and then once you've uploaded the 2 resulting files (htm file and swf file) to the slice of web hosting you've secured, you need to use the link above to Jeff's lens and use the iFrame code generator.

And what URL do you put into it instead of the google.com example?

The link to where your file is stored on the web hosting.

Then you put the iFrame code which is generated into a Write module.

And all is done, and everyone is happy as larry.

MORE CLARIFICATION:

1. Read this lens right the way through.

2. Read it again.

3. Click this link and get yourself a copy of Web Audio Plus for 10 dollars, or get it dirt-cheap through the ebay links above.

4. Use the software video tutorial to guide you through creating an swf file and an htm file.

5. Upload both of these files to either your website hosting, or get somebody you know who has a website to do it for you.

6. Use the iFrame code generator on Jeff's lens to get a code. In the code, the URL asked for (shown as google.com as the example) should be the URL of the htm file which is now saved onto the web hosting.

7. Insert the iFrame code into a Write module on the lens of your choice.

8. Rinse, and repeat on as many lenses as you wish.

If you don't understand any or all of these steps, then you are probably someone who doesn't have website. If this is true, then the kind person you know who is going to store the 2 files for you will be able to help you with understanding anything here that you missed.

Thanks for the great idea of putting mp3's on Squidoo - I record my own songs and I'm also a guitar teacher - this could be useful. I'll give you five stars.

I've noticed I've actually got WebAudioPlus (came with MME) and until now hadn't thought about what to do with it.... hmmmmm. Thanks for the ideas! :-D

Tell me again, how do I rate this?
I am clicking on stars but nothing happens.
I would love to give you the 5 stars.

Oh Great Detective...you have surpassed Columbo in my book! Somehow your "very" subliminal messages made me click the five star rating in addition to adding you as an absolute favorite! And I did it "unconditionally." Hmmm. I must have remembered your declaration of love!

Cool. Pretty tricky over you to put in the subliminal messages in your background music telling me to give you five stars. Or maybe the voices in my head just liked the lens a lot. Hard to tell. How do you play an MP3 backwards? sanjaysagrawal probably knows...

Hello Lewis,

Cool! Interesting piece of information, worth tagging as favorite, plus a 5 star! :-)

Now, to begin from the beginning: search for a good piece of music ...

Cheers,
Sanjay.
