Litha-Summer Solstice
Litha celebrates the verdant Earth in summers, abundance, fertility, and all of the beauty and abundance of Nature in full bloom. This is a time of strong magic and empowerment! This time is used a lot for Handfasting ceremonies. It is also used for communication with the spirits of Nature especially the fae folk.
This is a time known as the first harvest; Litha represents the pregnant Goddess and honoring the Sun God.
(Litha-Summer Solstice is June 21, 2010)

I reference this book daily. I love this book and have used it for years. When you use herbs for magickal uses such as cooking, designing a magickal tea, making poppets or medicine bags, this is the best book I have found.
It is not an expensive book and I promise everytime you use it, you will get your money's worth.

so how do you make an herbal tea infusion? Lets design a tea from the above list. In a large bowl mix together a half cup each of: Chamomile, Rose Petals, Lemon Balm, and Nettle. Add one forth cup of lavender and yarrow. Mix together and put into a jar with a tight fitting lid. Bring 2 quartz of distilled or spring water to boil and pour over about 3 teaspoons of the herb mixture.
Let it steep for fifteen minutes, strain and enjoy!! You can add a little sweetner if you choose.

Foods to make during Litha
Having a nice lunch for yourself or your friends to celebrate this Sabbat is very easy and a lot of fun. Make some homemade bread the day before. My Favorite Wheat Bread
2 cups of Wheat Flour
1 cup of White Flour
1/4 cup potato flour
Potato Flour
¼ cup of sugar
½ teaspoon of sea salt
1 tablespoon of honey
1/8 cup of canola oil
1 package of yeast
1 1/2 cup of warm water
Use a hand mixer and blend together the water, sugar, salt, oil, honey, yeast and one cup of white flour and potatoe flour. Slowly add the remaining flour and mix together. If the dough is too sticky add a little more wheat flour. If dough is a little too dry add a little more warm water.
Lightly dust your surface with flour and knead the dough for 10 minutes infusing the mixture with loving energy. Lightly spray a bowl with an nonstick cooking spray, put the dough in the bowl and cover it with plastic and a towel and let it rise for 2 hours.
Knead another 10 minutes again infusing it with loving energy. Spray your loaf pan with a nonstick cooking spray and place dough in it, lightly spraying the top with the nonstick cooking spray, cover with plastic and a towel and let it rise another two hours.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. During the last 5 minutes place a piece of foil over the top of the bread to prevent it from getting too dark and cook the remaining amount of time. When you take the bread out of the oven and the pan, cover it with a slightly dampened cloth and this keeps the crust soft.
To make herb butter :
Soften about one cup of butter and add two teaspoons of fresh, chopped herb of your choice or one teaspoon of dried herb. Blend together real good and place bowl back in the refrigerator. I really enjoy Rose Petal butter, so I chop about two teaspoons of rose petals and add that to the butter. You could also add a few pansy petals to make it interesting.
Unique Potato Chicken Salad
2-cups of cooked and chopped skinless chicken breast
3 med size thin skin potatoes, washed and cubed into 1/2 size pieces-boiled until tender.
2 cups of freshed or frozened green beans cooked until tender
1/4 cup of sliced almonds
Add all of the above in a bowl and add enough fat-free Ranch salad dressing where everything is coated. Season to taste with garlic and pepper. Trust me, this is so yummy!!!
Make a pot of the tea mixture we mentioned above and you have one fantastic lunch for Litha
Scents used for Litha
Here is a list of oils that you use to anoint candles and to use for ritual purposes. I always like adding the magickal properties so they are listed as well.Making Anointing Oils
I am always make anointing oils. I have bottles of different potions I have created for different uses. The things you can do with these oils are numerous. You can wear them, anoint your candles with them, use them with your herbs in a spell or a ritual. One of my favorite things to do with these oils is use it in tea light candles or aromatherapy containers.
To make an anointing oil:
If you plan on wearing these oils be sure to use a good carrier oil because of the stronger essential oils can burn your skin. My two favorite carrier oils are: Sweet Almond oil and Sunflower oil. I always use a few drops of Vit. E. oil because that acts as a natural perservative-although sunflower oil also acts as a natural perservative. If you like you could also use a fixative oil such as Benzion or Orris Root. Orris Root smells so wonderful to me, it has a sweet violet smell.
I really do not follow a lot of rules when putting my potions together, but there are couple of things I b> do, one is I use a dark glass bottle with a eye dropper and the second is I always stir the potion with a stick. Depending on the amount of oil you want to make is the amounts of carrier oil, vit. e and essential oils you will use. Here is an example of one of my protection oils I created to use during the New Moon cycle for banishing.
1/8 cup of almond oil
6 drops of vit. E oil
3-drops of Rue
3-drops of Oakmoss
3-drops of Dragonsblood
3-drops of Vetivert
Since I work in three's most of the time, this formula works for me. Making an oil of Litha is using the same formula combination to your own liking.
Here are some of the oils used at Litha:
Heliotrope: Prophetic Dreams, Healing, Wealth, Invisibility
Orange: Love, Divination, Luck, Money
Frankincense & Myrrh: Protection, Spirituality, Healing
Wisteria: Spirituality and Protection
Lavender: Relaxing, Love, purification
Rose: Love and divination
Pine: Protection, Wealth, healing, fertility
