An easy way to adopt a road

Government adopt a road programs can be some what burdensome. EnviroCorps has come up with a Litter Free Roads program that addresses problems with the system and makes it easy for people to participate.

While this lens only deals with roads adopted on the Gig Harbor and Key Peninsulas in Washington State, it does set an example of how EnviroCorps zip code leaders in other areas could do the same thing. To learn more about EnviroCorps click here.  To learn about some of the tools and safety items concerning patrolling for road litter click here.

EnviroCorps has assisted companies and individuals in adopting 9 sections of road on the peninsulas. This lens will inform you how you can help keep them litter free or assist in adopting other road sections.

Volunteering your time with EnviroCorps

How to stay fit and trim and help your community

People have very busy lives these days and do not wish to make long term commitments. Most adopt a road programs require a 2 year commitment before the road can be officially adopted.

EnviroCorps has partnered with businesses and individuals that have sponsored the adoption of various road sections. They may or may not wish to volunteer their time to pick up the litter. EnviroCorps first choice is to ask volunteers to pick up the litter. If no volunteers can be found we utilize LaborWorks temporary services. When volunteers assist us, we have more funds to help expand our programs.

To see where and when we need volunteers go to this module.

EnviroCorps litter free roads program on the Key Peninsula

At this time we have one officially adopted road and one unofficial adopted road section on the Key Peninsula. Unofficial means we have no sponsor or supporters for that section of road. To find out how you can help click on each road section.

Officially adopted: #7. (Key Peninsula HWY KPN)

Unofficially adopted: #8. (Crews road, 150th Ave KPN, and 128th St KPN)
Crews road runs through the Rocky Creek Natural Area. Key Peninsula residents and others have worked for years to clean up this area and build trails in the park. Your help is needed to keep in litter free

Litter Free Roads sponsors and supporter needed.

Feel good without volunteering your valuable time

It takes $150 to assure a 2 mile section of road is picked up once. To adopt a road we need to pick it up at least every three months. A sponsor is needed to contribute $150 quarterly to meet the minimum requirements. Two road signs with sponsors name on them will be installed. LaborWorks temporary services or EnviroCorps volunteers do all the work.

Also if 5 supporters each contribute $10 a month or $120 a year we can adopt a section of road.

When making a contribution give us the number (#?) of the road section you would like to support or if it is simply a general Litter Free Roads program donation. The more support for a particular road section we have, the more often it will get picked up.

You can make a reoccurring monthly donation by clicking here NOW.

Thank you for your help.
