Little Bunny Foo Foo Kids Song and Book

Little Bunny Foo Foo is one of the funniest, most amusing little children's books ever written. Children love to sing and read along to this story.

The song, Little Bunny Foo Foo has been around for years but it was first published in 1990.

There are many versions of Little Bunny Foo Foo with differing variations.
It's also known under the alternative name Little Rabbit Foo Foo.

"Foo Foo" is sometimes spelled as "Fu Fu".

Little Bunny Foo Foo's Story?

What's it all about?

Little Bunny Foo Foo storyThe story consists of a small rotten little rabbit.
The little bunny spends his days hanging around the forest scooping up a field mice, some wriggly worms, tigers and finally goblins, and then bopping them all on the head with his hammer. Needless to say, Little Bunny Foo Foo is not a very popular member of the forest community.

Finally the Good Fairy comes down and warns the little rabbit that he has three chances to fix his ways or she will turn him into a goon! Well of course the little guy does not listen, develops an attitude and keep right on riding and bopping. He goes over the line and reaps his just reward.

The text is extremely catchy and you will find yourself and the kids humming it and wording it even when the book is not being read.

"Little Rabbit Foo Foo
riding through the forest,
scooping up the wriggly worms
and bopping them on the head."

How to Sing Little Bunny Foo Foo?

Little Bunny Foo FooAn older person usually sings the rhyme to a younger child, using a repetitive melodic line, followed by hand gestures.

In some versions the Good Fairy turns Little Bunny Foo-foo into a Goose or a Goon. Also, in other versions, instead of a goon, sometimes Little Bunny Foo Foo is turned into a worm. Also, in some versions the Angel Gabriel is used instead of the Good Fairy.

One common ending has Little Bunny Foo-Foo turned into a Goon, with a pun ending "And the moral of the story is: Hare today, goon tomorrow."

The story is also retold in the book "Lenore, The Cute Dead Girl: Noogies" whereby Lenore plays as little bunny foo foo and gets told to stop bopping field mice on the head by the good fairy. She continues bopping other animals instead, and so the good fairy reappears and reprimands her saying: "no bopping ANY animals on the head!". Lenore responds with bopping the fairy. The moral of the story was: "be more specific".

In this picture-book interpretation of a classic ditty, Little Bunny Foo Foo's transgressions are narrated by the Good Fairy herself, who is at cross-purposes with Foo Foo in the matter of boppin' field mice and other woodland critters. "Yucky, mucky mud pies" are Foo Foo's weapons of choice, and, in a twist that will be welcome by fans of things that go vroom, the rabbit chases down victims in increasingly outrageous vehicles.
Johnson paints in a pleasant, color-flecked style, although his Good Fairy, a bizarre amalgam of a woman and an opossum, will probably baffle children whose mental image is based on Tinkerbell. But the interactive spirit of the song is intact, thanks to type that changes color at moments appropriate for group participation, and the visual presentation is silly enough to match the fun of saying "foo foo" and "goon" at the top of one's lungs. Music, complete lyrics, and descriptions of the hand moves are included.

Little Bunny Foo Foo,
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head

Down came the good fairy and she said

"Little Bunny Foo Foo,
I don't want to see you
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head.
I'll give you three chances,
And if you don't behave
I'll turn you into a goon!"

The next day:

Little Bunny Foo Foo,
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head

Down came the good fairy and she said

"Little Bunny Foo Foo,
I don't want to see you
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head.
I'll give you two more chances,
And if you don't behave
I'll turn you into a goon!"

The next day:

Little Bunny Foo Foo,
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head

Down came the good fairy and she said

"Little Bunny Foo Foo,
I don't want to see you
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head.
I'll give you one more chance,
And if you don't behave
I'll turn you into a goon!"

The next day:

Little Bunny Foo Foo,
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head

Down came the good fairy and she said

"Little Bunny Foo Foo,
I don't want to see you
Scooping up the field mice
And boppin' 'em on the head.
I gave you three chances
And you didn't behave
Now you're a goon! POOF!!"

The moral of the story is:
HARE TODAY, GOON TOMORROW

Little Rabbit Foo Foo hops through the forest, picking up various creatures--field mice, wriggly worms, tigers, and goblins--and bopping them on the head with his red mallet. The Good Fairy warns him to stop, but finally turns him into a goon.
This slightly retold version of a popular children's song has a lot of energy; unfortunately, Rosen includes neither music nor even a preface to let readers know that the tune is the same as "Down by the Railroad." The illustrations are bright, cheerful, and clearly detailed, if somewhat reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons. Amusing, but not an essential purchase--acting out the song is still more fun than reading it aloud.

Brings back memories. I only sing the song now to annoy my son. He's 9 and doesn't like to admit he was once a sweet toddler.

I've gotta admit, I've never heard of this song before! I don't watch TV and haven't for years, and so sometimes miss out on important parts of our cultural heritage, like this song. However... you have some of the CUTEST bunny photos ever here! I loved them! Thought I'd better gush over them while I'm here.

I vaguely remember my mother singing this to me in a threatening tone when I was a little kid ... ever since I have not bopped a single field mouse on its head.
