which supports a crib mattress, the most popular Lighting McQueen bed holds a traditional twin size mattress and is a larger bed.

The bed itself is 91.5 inches long and made of heavy, sturdy plastic. Measure the room before choosing this bed! Wooden supports hold the mattress in place and the bed can also hold a box spring, although that raises the mattress a bit above the sides. Smaller children won't need the box spring and if they're just transitioning out of a crib. Then those sloping sides act as some protection against small ones rolling out of their new beds.

The bed does not come with a mattress or box spring so these need to be purchased separately. The mattress is a necessity. The box spring can come later or not at all if the child transitions out of this bed before outgrowing the mattress support.

While we love this bed and have had no complaints, I read every one of the 42 Amazon reviews to give you a flavor for what other consumers had to say. Of the 42 ratings, 31 gave the bed a 5, 10 gave the bed a 4, and 1 gave the bed a rating of 2 stars but was very clear that the only reason they'd given the bed a low rating was because their stickers had become stuck to the inside of the box during shipping and they've been waiting a couple of weeks for replacements. Other than that, they also love the bed.

Most mentioned the delight of their child in moving from their crib to this particular bed because of their excitement about Lightning McQueen. Getting a toddler to move out of the crib is sometimes hard work and it appears a little enticement goes a long way.

Important comments and suggestions:

Many noted that the box in which the bed comes is HUGE, making having it shipped versus picking it up, was a benefit.

Put the stickers for the bed on before you assemble. It's much more difficult to get them on accurately after.

Assembly is simple and takes about 30 minutes, most of which is getting the decals on correctly.

The bed rates very high in terms of being sturdy. Many parents noted that they can sit or lay on the bed with their child for reading a story or saying goodnight.

Using a box spring raised the mattress too high to have the sides help keep a child from rolling out but the wooden supports are not all that sturdy. Also, because there are only three wooden slats, a child could stand on the bed in an unsupported corner and cause the mattress to tip. Cut a piece of plywood to fit within the frame to add some support. Another option is a low profile mattress and box spring.
