Recipes for Kids

Kids like to help in the kitchen. Instead of always doing it yourself to save time, why not encourage their interest? Give your budding chefs some recipes they can handle on their own. You can advise and supervise and they can have fun and gain a sense of accomplishment by making something the family can enjoy. By encouraging your child's interest in cooking you may gain a great kitchen helper. A little time spent now will save you time later. You will also be making memories and bonding. I have nice memories of my mom and sister and I working in the kitchen together. Let's get started on some recipes for kids!

1 cup graham cracker crumbs
One 6 oz. package semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup coconut
1 cup nuts chopped
One 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. (325 for a glass dish)
In a 13 x 9 pan, melt the butter in the oven.
When melted take it out of the oven and sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the butter.
Add the chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, coconut, and nuts in layers.
Pour the sweetened condensed milk over all.
Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
Cool thoroughly before cutting.
Store loosely covered at room temperature.

My mom used to make this recipe probably 40 years ago. I think it used to be on the sweetened condensed milk can. It still tastes great today!

An easy and fun recipe for the kids.

ICE CREAM CONE CUPCAKES

Ingredients:
1 package of your favorite cake mix
36 flat-bottom ice cream cones
1 tub (12 oz.) whipped frosting (your favorite flavor)
Assorted decorations such as mini chocolate chips, jimmies, or sprinkles.

Directions:

Heat oven to 350 F. Make the cake mix as directed on the package. Fill each cone about one half full of batter.

Stand the cones in a muffin tin. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely.

When they are cool frost them, then have fun decorating. It is best to eat these on the same day you bake them.

Kids love to cook and help in the kitchen. That's why Jennifer Low has created this book of 100 no-knives, no-flame, from-scratch recipes that kids can easily make with the help of a caring adult. Each recipe has been tested by kids aged four and up and each dish is beautifully photographed From Paddy Thai Noodles and One-Potato-Two Bread to Baby Lemon Meringue Pies and Strawberry-Fudge Striped Cake, the author shows how to organize a safe and fun kitchen for kids to learn cooking and to create yummy dishes.

Cooking with Kids

Make some memories!

Cooking is like play to children and like everything else it is a learning experience. A mother wisely takes advantage of her children's interest in cooking and of their desire for helpfulness to give them each a practical knowledge of everyday cooking. This not only gives them a sense of individual accomplishment but trains them in team work as well. Enjoy cooking in the kitchen with your children. Make some memories!
