We are Tracy and Peter and we live in a 3-bedroomed semi-detached 1930's ex-council house in suburban Surrey with our two children.
Peter is an architect specialising in energy-conscious design and I am a stay-at-home-mother, blogger, gardener and green activist.
We are refitting our house and garden to improve sustainability by increasing the energy-efficiency of the house, putting water saving schemes into place and growing as much of our own food as possible.
I hope that our children will learn to care for the earth at my knee, and so I try to lead by example. I believe that we have a responsibility to our children, and to our grandchildren, to make changes now, so that the planet it in a fit state for them to inherit.
This is the story of our efforts.

Green products we've tried & like
- Weleda products
I love these products, I use them on myself and on the children. The calendula baby range has a very effective nappy change cream, gorgeous baby oil (all plant based, no mineral oil) that's perfect for massages after baths, and a very gentle soap for small people's sensitive skins.
I love the Iris skincare range. I use the cleansing milk, toning lotion and day cream. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these products. - Bio Care Bathroom Cleaner with Tea Tree Oil
Probably the most incredible "green" clean product I've ever tried. I buy it from Sainsbury's and haven't seen it anywhere else yet. It's the first time since we've gone over to using eco-friendly cleaning products that I haven't had to struggle to get rid of dirty rings in the bath! I would recommend this to everyone. - SAVAplug
We bought one of these a while ago from The Green Shop to wire onto an old freezer that we received via Freecycle. I can't tell you how much electricity we've saved, but I do know that the instructions say that if the light on the plug is flickering or on, that means that it's doing its job properly and saving us electricity.

Where we like to shop
- The Green Shop
- The Green Shop sells environmentally friendly products for a sustainable future. We've bought a SAVAplug and some other bits and pieces from them and their delivery was very quick.
- Spirit of Nature
- Suppliers of baby clothes, nappies, organic cosmetics and really nice wooden toys.
- Even Greener
- All the equipment you need for water saving, composting, recycling and some interesting gadgets for the home and garden. We bought our water butts and wormery from these guys, subsidised by our local council.
