Little House Party for Little Girls

Throw your child an old-fashioned birthday party she'll never forget! Here you will find many ideas for decorations, food, games, and prizes to make a memorable and fun "Little House" themed birthday party.

Little House on the Prairie Birthday Party!!!

Easy Steps to a Fantastic Party

Here's some great ideas:

INVITATIONS:
Draw or Photocopy the cover of the Laura Ingles Wilder book "Little House on the Prairie", then change it to read "Little House on YOUR STREET NAME"
eg. Little House on Oak Street

Make (colour) copies.
On the back include the party details (birthday girl's name, date, time, place, etc.)
Encourage guests to dress up like prairie girls!

DECORATIONS:
Old-fashioned streamers. Simple!

ARRIVAL ACTIVITIES:
Give each guest a triangular kerchief that you've cut out from a brightly coloured piece of cotton fabric.
This is the Party Hat!

While waiting for all the guests to arrive, the kids can colour and cut out old-fashioned paper dolls.
I found some on the internet that be printed out.

FOOD: Serve old-fashioned prairie food like:

apple slices
cheese cubes
pickles
brown beans
ham
cornmeal muffins/biscuits
buns
popcorn balls
serve lemon-aid in tin cups that will later be used as treat bags they can take home

This isn't necessarily food kids love, but it's a theme party so the kids will have fun eating old-fashioned foods.

THE CAKE:

I made a cake in the shape of the house Laura lived in on the TV show and iced it in yellow and brown. I just cut up a rectangular cake and pieced it together. I was a little rushed, so I'm sure you could do a better job on the icing!
Important!

Old-Fashioned Games:

(if you dont know them - google 'em)

-pin the tail on the donkey
-drop clothespins in the milk bottle (2 teams - 5 clothespins/child)
-who's got the button?
-musical chairs
-a spelling bee (with words like wagon, farmer, horse, church, pond, bucket etc.)
-bobbing for apples!

The spelling bee was a big hit. The child with the most correct answers wins.

PRIZES:
try to find old-fashioned toys such as yo-yos, ball and sticks or kaleidoscopes.

Treat Bags

*jacks
*wooden prisms
*candy sticks
*farm animal stickers
*tie all of the above in a little cloth/net bag with @ satin ribbons they can later wear in their hair
*put all of the above in a large tin cup (tin cup can be used at the party lunch)

Happy kids

We had a Little House Party a few years ago for our daughter. I made bonnets for the girls and a prairie girl cake from an old Holly Hobbie cake pan. We had popcorn balls, cornbread, and sweet potato pies. Crafts included creating "quilts" with scrapbook paper, sewing bean bags, and making cut-out silhouettes of the girls. I'd love for you to check out all my pictures and party details on my decorating website: www.makingarrangementsblog.com

What a neat idea. I don't know of any little girl that doesn't love Little House on the Prairie. Wish I'd thought of this when my girls were little. Wonderful lens.
