Liv Doll Katie Review

Liv Dolls are 1/6 scale fashion dolls made by Spin Master. The dolls have hard plastic bodies and vinyl heads. Their eyes aren't painted on but are inset; their lashes are painted on. They are poseable and can move their heads, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, waist, knees and ankles. They are 12" tall (30.5 cm).

An interesting feature about a Liv Doll is her hair. Instead of being rooted directly to the head, the hair is actually rooted to a vinyl cap as a wig. Under the wig is a short, cute, moulded hairstyle which I think is a nice effect. Wigs can be purchased separately and come in a variety of colours, lengths and styles. I was impressed with the silkiness of the hair and how easily it can be brushed out, pinned back and braided. Wigs have posts in the middle that fit directly into the hole found in the top of the doll's head. Putting a wig on can be a little tricky for small hands, but I much prefer the post to fussing with a mesh cap wig or velcro. Katie's hair is a lush brown with lighter brown streaks throughout.

It's nice to see that the doll designer considered putting hair on Katie's head under her wig instead of leaving her completely bald. Some people criticize the size of the doll's head in relation to her body, but I think it allows for greater versatility when it comes to hairstyling.

On a side note: The girls do come with earrings that are easily taken in and out of the ears. They are straight posts as opposed to hooks. Because the dolls do come with small accessories such as the earrings, the manufacturer recommends the dolls for children over the age of five.

The Katie I have for this review is Liv Doll with Border Collie Pet - Katie and Sk8. She came with a hat, long sleeved top, blue jeans (velcro closure in back), running shoes, a watch, earrings, a hairbrush, frisbee and of course her dog SK8. The dog is a border collie and it came with a little striped hoodie and a leash. There are different types of Katie available wearing different fashions. Her style is sporty and fun. Of course you can always buy any of the Liv Doll fashions for different looks, or make the outfits yourself if you are crafty.
