Live Dangerously (while staying safe)

Thrill Seeking (less-dangerous) Alternatives

Taking our lives into our own hands doesn't mean we have to risk our lives. There are tamer alternatives for the armchair thrill-seeker that can give you that life-affirming rush you were hoping for while keeping you safer than the riskier counterpart.

Love the idea of riding a motorcycle but hate the idea of a fiery death? Try a scooter. Always wanted to try skydiving but are scared that pots and pans instead of a parachute will be released from your chute upon the pull of the cord? Try bungie jumping. You get the idea. Read on for more ways to live dangeroulsy (while staying safe).

Drive a Scooter

Instead of a motorcycle

Why risk your life on a motorcycle when you can zip around safely on a scooter?!

Scooters are fun, plain and simple. They have the open-air feel of oneness with the road that a motorcycle has but without the potentially death-inducing speeds. A standard 50cc scooter goes about a maximum of 45mph. This is just fast enough to excite and slow enough to avoid maiming.

Go Spelunking

Not Rock Climbing

I have rock climbed and with proper training it is almost entirely safe. But it can definitely be scary and is not for everyone. It also requires a certain level of athleticism which not everyone possesses. If you want to experience the thrill of hanging off a cliffs edge then try spelunking. Ther are cave exploring tours all over the place and can vary from simple day trips to lengthy excursions. A great way to get outside for people of all athletic levels.

Go Bungie Jumping

Instead of Sky-Diving

The thought of hurling yourself out of a plane at 10,000 feet can be very scary for many people (myself included). Why not start off by hurling yourself off a brdige instead! Though both "sports" are quite safe (again, with proper training), bungie jumping is a little less intimidating and a great way to introduce yourself to the thrilling affects that gravity can have on the body.

Down, then up, then down, then up...

Go Kite Surfing

Instead of Surfboarding

Surfing is hard. I have tried it and failed miserably. That said, it requires practice and is not quite for everyone. Tamer alternative? Kite surfing.

Kite surfing has increased in popularity in recent years and while there are daredevils in this sport (as in any), it is relatively accessible for people of all ages and with generally fitter physiques.
