My Top 10 Favorite LiveJournal Communities *UPDATED*

thequestionclub. Oh my goodness I cannot even begin to express how much love I have for this place. The premise is simple: every post must contain a question, then a large community of users will answer, giving you a truly interesting array of comments. You can ask anything, from "what's your favorite song?" to "how should I propose to my girlfriend?" or even, "how much money do you make a year?" Yes, really.

TQC is made even more amazing by the people who frequent it. There's such an awesome mix of people (and lots of 'em!) so there's never a shortage of conversation. I'd be willing to say that I've learned more from The Question Club than any other website... yet alone community!

abandonedplaces is an awesome community of people who go into abandoned buildings across the world and document their adventures.

The photography that you'll find in this community is just spectacular. These people will blow your mind with what they find. The members of this community explore really creepy but fascinating old abandoned mental hospitals, schools, houses, and even entire cities!

If you've ever had an interest in abandoned buildings or photography, here's the place to go. They will inspire you like no other community I've ever come across, and you can even find a group of explorers in your local area that will allow you to accompany them as they explore!

Admit it, there are times where you find yourself staring at your computer screen, bored and with nothing to do. At times like these, surveys is there to step in and offer some boredom relief! Members make and post surveys for your enjoyment.

(And just for clarity: I'm not talking about the kind of survey that certain websites "pay" you to complete, I'm talking about the FUN kind of survey, where you answer questions about yourself, such as "what's your biggest fear?")

My suggestion? Take surveys and save them in a document on your computer. After some time has passed, you will be able to come back and read your previous answers to questions. It will amaze you how much your preferences are influenced by temporary factors in your life.

in_my_purse is a community of people who take pictures of their purses/bags/backpacks and the contents inside of them.

Okay, I know you're wondering WHY in the world anyone would ever want to see what's inside of a stranger's purse, but it's quite interesting to see what some people consider to be "essential everyday items". Plus, you may get inspired by someone's purse. One time I saw a member's post who displayed the fact that she carries mace in her purse, for protection. I realized what an excellent idea this was, and have carried mace in my purse for the past several months.

See, in_my_purse is a potential lifesaver! ;)

Oh my goodness, if I had to put a number on how many times the community bakebakebake has made me salivate, it would probably be well into the four-digits.

BakeBakeBake is exactly what you would guess - a community of bakers coming together to share recipes, stories, and pictures of everybody's favorites: cakes, brownies, and cookies. You can even use this community to make a request such as, "Help! I'm dying to bake tonight, but I only have lemons, flour, and eggs! What can I do?" and the lovely members will provide an array of options.

badtattoos_5 will make you REALLY consider otherwise if you thinking about getting a tattoo. You do NOT want to wind up on this community, which mocks some of the most hilarious and horrible tattoos ever done. This community is sure to deliver the chuckles.

How do you NOT become one of these laughable suckers featured in the community?

1. Think long and hard about the tattoo you want. Do NOT get a tattoo on a last-minute whim.
2. RESEARCH. Don't just walk into the first tattoo parlor you see - do some research online. Read some testimonials of the place. Watch the tattoo artist give someone else a tattoo first.
3. RESEACH SOME MORE! This one's rather simple, but you'd be surprised how many people don't spell check! Misspelled tattoos are the worst. Do not leave it up to the tattoo artist to correct your grammar.

saucydwellings is a really cool community in which members showcase parts of their house that they're really proud of. The decorations are fabulous - like something you'd find in a magazine! It's a great place for inspiration if you want to get a not-so-saucy space looking great!

Don't feel discouraged by the sheer amazingness of what you see in this community: most members decorate on a very strict budget, but use their creativity to make yard sale furniture look First Class.

adayinmylife is a community in which people take pictures of what they do in a day. Posts start from the time the member wakes up, and usually ends when they go to bed. Posts are usually around fifty pictures, which capture the essence of what the member did throughout their day.

It's not just exciting days that get captured, either. People capture a typical day of just laying around the house. While you may not think this would be interesting, it truly is. It's a thrill to see people's habits captured on film and read their narrations of their day.

I have not yet done an ADIML post, but I've been itching to for years!

Ah, ugly_crap. You provide me with so much comic relief.

This is an awesomely hilarious community that mocks the ugliest products available on the internet. Etsy is a huge target for this site, and while you may think that it's mean to make fun of products and crafts that people worked really hard on, sometimes you just have to wonder what was going through these people's minds when they thought their creations could actually be sold for real money.

It's not just homemade crafts that get mocked. Designers who made off-the-wall clothes get made fun of as well. Vintage toys are mocked. No one is free from the horrors of ugly_crap. As the community says, they simply "snark" the "Ugliest Products in the Universe."

ourbedrooms is ridiculously awesome. It's really interesting to see what different people do with small spaces.

This community differs from saucydwellings in that it focuses specifically on the bedroom. Not only that, but your room is not required to be stunning or breath-takingly elegant to be on ourbedrooms. This is a community for normal people with normal living spaces (although, I'll admit that some people's "normal" bedrooms are rather amazing, to say the least.)

The summer before I moved into my dorm, I spent every waking moment looking at this community, searching for awesome but simple ideas to make my drab living space amazing. The result? I had the coolest dorm room, of course!

This is an amazing community with a ton of members that are dedicated to helping you find something. For example, you can make a post along the lines of "I'm really looking for a pair of shoes with a two-inch heel and a pink zipper on them, please!" and people will respond with stores where you can find the shoes you want. Never underestimate the power of the internet - they'll find you what you're looking for.

customers_suck
This is a huge community in which you can share or just read funny/horrible stories of customers treating employees poorly. Some are pretty horrific, but they're a good way to make yourself feel a lot better about your own job.

This is a community that follows the life of celebrities. Some posts simply feature a few pictures from an actress at a movie premiere and other posts may be a copy of a recent interview with your favorite band. It is incredibly up-to-date - posts are made very frequently. I'm talkin' every-few-minutes frequently. Gone are the days of vague celebrity gossip; the members of ONTD are not afraid to dish their opinions on what's going on with their favorite celebrities.
