Like the Title Says, Why I Love to Ride
Well I feel sorry for people confined to vehicles, so I want to show the fun in riding a bicycle.

Weeee This Is Fun
I am old enough to be an adult but thankfully no one ever accused me of acting like one.
When I moved back to my hometown, I could not justify the expense of running my truck so I sold it. There was no problem getting around in a small town and I love to walk anyway.
That was fine but it was like something was missing. That was easily remedied by adding wheels and gears to me.
The bike in the Intro picture is mine except mine lives in my spare room and not the Norco website. Also my bike has a better seat, water bottle and cable lock attached; oh don't forget the full function odometer.
This is Picture 1 for the Poll
Doesn't this look fun? It's All Good
How limiting is that?, I can go places a vehicle would never get close to. So this is the ultimate freedom. The best part is once you get to the trails and paths, there are no rules of the road.
There is a sense of accomplishment in riding. The joy comes from doing something where you don't have to rely on anyone or anything. I know my bike can take far more than I could ever throw at it, so there is nothing to limit me but myself.
Never do I have to worry about parking or space constraints. I have none of the expenses of running a vehicle. If I make a point of looking at the price on gas, it usually makes me shudder, thankful I don't need any.
What can I say about something that is so much fun yet still legal? :)
This is Picture 2 for the Poll
Well Maybe Not All Good...
Yes a bike has a legal right to be on the road, in its proper place (I don't recommend driving lanes for example). However, having a right will give you no advantage if there is a collision. The bike rider must watch out for themselves, that's all there is to it.
I can't prove anyone has ever tried to kill me on my bike. It's possible they were not watching, busy or at worst on their cell phone. I can tell you though that more than once I have taken serious evasive action aimed at keeping myself alive.
Not having a vehicle I ride year round (Canadian winter eh). Yes I know you are thinking he seems enthusiastic but not all that bright.
Besides having a good sense of adventure, it really does make sense. It's faster than walking so less exposure time. No I can't go as fast but having a mountain bike makes it not bad to get around. Packed or deep snow is challenging and glare ice is just silly.
The really bad part of 'off season' riding is again traffic. Drivers who don't want you on 'their' road in the first place are even more unpredictable in winter.
Again the rider must watch out for themselves, they can't count on anyone else to do it.
The Big Bike Poll
I realize I may have a slight bias on this topic, so let's hear what you think.
Homer Simpson Speaks Out
Wrapping It Up
Whether or not you agree with me, do yourself a favor, go out and get yourself a bike :)
Oh it's ok to keep the vehicle too, just watch out for our friends on two wheels.

Cool blog Ross! Riding is tons of fun, I agree, especially with the price of gas these days! Kudos on your environmentally friendly attitude! Have your ridden up to the farm? I also love riding my bike around the streets of small town Taiwan! You think the traffic is bad in Drum? Haha. Defensive, AGGRESSIVE riding is the key. Now I live in the countryside and I get to ride around rice fields and through small traditional farming villages, you would LOVE it!
