What is an Epitaph?

An epitaph can be either an etching into a gravestone such as "devoted mother and wife" or a summary of a loved ones life, written through the eyes of the people closest to the deceased.

So why may you ask am I writing about an epitaph in a business articles directory?

Why should you write your Epitaph?

It's simple. I want you to really think about what you have achieved lately, are your achievements taking you to your ultimate destination and I don't mean your grave! Are you creating your own life journey or is your life's journey creating you?

Too often we start off with great plans and high ideals about what we want to achieve during our lifetime. It may not be to change the world, but it makes us feel proud about what we would love to achieve and what we stand for. As time goes on and day to day living starts to take hold we often forget what it was that we really wanted to achieve. We start reacting to our circumstances and our environment instead of being proactive and creating what we want for our own lives.

Life is all about making a difference, whether we make a difference to our family, our friends, our neighbours or whole communities or even countries, don't you think you owe it to yourself to make your life count towards making a difference to something or someone?

Take some time out of your daily routines and sit either in front of your computer screen with your word processor open on a blank document or sit with a pen and paper and really start to think about what you want to achieve in your lifetime. How would you like to be remembered once you are gone?

What Are You Going To Achieve?

What is it that, when you daydream seems to pop up time and time again. What are you doing on a daily basis? Where do you work? Do you do charity work or donate to good causes? Are you a friend who can be counted on? Are you up for the best parent award? Have you created something that is helping millions of people?

When carrying out this exercise don't get bashful and think, who am I to want these great things? Who am I to achieve such amazing results? We all have a little bit of Albert Einstein, Bill Gates, Alfred Nobel, Emmeline Pankhurst or Oprah Winfrey within us, we can achieve anything we set our minds to and don't we owe it to ourselves to at least try?

Alfred Nobel once heard a premature version of his epitaph which described him as a "munitions man" as he had created dynamite. Once he heard this he decided there and then that this wasn't the way he wanted to be remembered and made plans to set up and create the Nobel Prize organisation. Imagine what would of happened if he hadn't heard that epitaph or thought about how he would be remembered once he had died?
