Living in an RV Full-time in Canada

Imagine being able to tour North America while sleeping in your own bed and cooking in your kitchen every day. Imagine traveling at your own pace, with your pets or your children. Imagine being able to support yourself while living a mobile lifestyle. All of these things are achievable by choosing to live full-time in an RV.

The full-time RV lifestyle is very popular in the United States but is only just taking off in Canada. This lens explores the unique challenges of full-time RVing north of the 49th parallel.

Why Live in an RV Full-Time?

The author's home parked somewhere on the Alaska highway

Do you have itchy feet? Do you move around a lot? Do you wish you could stretch your travel budget further? Do you have family and friends scattered around the continent? Are you sick of Canadian winters? These are only some of the reasons that Canadians hit the road full-time.

I hit the road full-time because it was the only way I could see myself being able to afford to do and see everything on this continent. From the shores of the Arctic Ocean to the Oregon Coast, northern Quebec to the vistas of Montana, full-timing has allowed me to fulfill travel dreams on avery small budget while sleeping with my cats in my own bed every night.

Others have chosen life on the open road to follow their job, whether it be in the oil rigs or sales. Some want to show their children a more meaningful way to live. Many just want to see a bit of sun in the winter without experiencing thirty below.

There are as many reasons to full-time as there are full-timers. Each story is unique. The only common vision is that of leading an uncommon life based on personal rather than societal values.

The Challenge of Full-Time RVing in Canada

Forget what Americans have told you!

Full-time RVing is not an established lifestyle yet in Canada. Some Canadian full-timers actually live outside the law and others twist their dreams of freedom to fit archaic legislation.

Until recently, there was very little information available about the full-time lifestyle as it applies to Canadians. There was definitely no resource that compiled health care and other rules, tax and vehicle registration rates, or which compared telecommunications options.

Now, Canadian full-timers have access to a comprehensive resource for anyone interested in getting into the full-time lifestyle in Canada, from the completely RVing novice to the seasoned part-timer. Full-Time RVing in Canada, written by RVers with more than thirteen years of combined experience full-timing, is an ebook that will show you what you're getting into, the pitfalls to avoid, and how to set yourself up for success. All for only $24.95!

Full-time RVing in Canada can be a challenge, but it is doable with the right attitude. Let this guide show you how.

“This is a serious work with tons of valuable information for Canadian full-timers. - Les, RV tech”

Not Just For Canadians!

This book is also for novice RVers. It contains everything about the technical aspects of RVing. RV Plumbing, Water, and Sewer & RV Electricity are excerpts from this book.

Staying in One Place?

I like to stay in one place, but for change moving around a day or two would be a great experience for sure! Great lens!

TravelingRae says:

That's the nice thing about RVing, wherever you are IS home. And living in an RV full-time isn't like 'camping.' I have all the creature comforts!

pacrapacma says:

I couldn't do it. I like the comforts of my home. I like camping, but I'm ready for home after two days.

shermanmorrison says:

I like staying in one place BUT with the option of getting up and going if I wanted to. The idea is appealing.

it sounds romantic, but i think i'm a home body.

Moving Around?

JoshK47 says:

This is my goal in life! Now I'm eager for more -- how do you pay bills, get mail, get med care -- how does it work?

I have often thought about doing this, but I'm down here in the states. I have wondered about full-timing in northern climates. We might even need to stay in a small travel trailer in the winter just as a temporary place to live. I'd love to see you write a lot more on this subject, such as the day to day details you must take care of.

I guess I would be concerned about health care if you got seriously ill. Other than that I would love to be able to trave the country. I would especially love to see Alaska. I really enjoyed reading your lens.
