How to Start Saving Money

Tips and Tricks to Living frugally

Thanks for giving this Lens a chance. You are know taking the right step in the direction of living stably . I want you to first understand how much money you currently live on each month. That will include income from jobs, money made working online, child support received. I am asking you to not lie to yourself since you will only be hurting yourself. While making the list of current monthly income try organizing the list into where the money comes from and how often. With this information that you have collected you will have started a point where you know how much money you have a month to work with.

After you have completed the task from above , please compile all of you monthly expenses and try to figure out where you money is going. Including all of your money spent is important, so don't forget cigarettes, coffee, and extras. After compiling your total monthly expenses add them together to figure out how much money you have left to spend and if you are over you know where to start.

Furgal Savings Tip

Coffee bought at Dunkin Donuts and other major outlets start around $2.00. If one person consumes 1 cup per day for a month you will spend $60.
The same person can buy a $5.00 container of coffee and a coffeepot for under $40.00 and save yourself almost $700 a year.

What do you like to splurge on.

I like to smoke cigarettes, but with the current prices I had to find a cheaper alternative. I ended up rolling my own and have saved over $1,000 since I have started doing so. So what can you do without buying at a convenience store and start making at home?

Many times in the past what little money we had was saved to insure that Christmas happened or that the tooth fairy was sure to arrive when she should. My daughter years later told me that the reason she believed so firmly in Santa Clause so late in life was because she knew that we were too poor to buy all the Christmas gifts that she got each year. Fortunately thanks largely to the love of a wonderful man, Squidoo, and being able to work online, my circumstances are now much better. The very best of seasonal blessings to you over the holidays.

I can tell from experience that never quitting, like you suggest, eventually helps us live below our income levels. I believe in building wealth over living frugally, but I also believe in not spending more than the cash-flow we are able and willing to generate. A great topic to think about for me as I just finished paying my bills. :-)

We live right in town so we shop almost daily - rarely do I stock up and spend a lot of money all at once - I seem to be able to make money stretch better by getting what we need 'in the moment'. Having an emergency fund is also my goal, it would be nice to have.

Please delete this! I noticed a little typo in your black box "frugal", that stuff happens to me all the time, our brain knows what we meant and doesn't catch it.
