Have you been wondering how to work less and play more?

As a massage therapist for 20 years I have seen the results of too much hard work and not enough playing - health issues, depression, pain just to name a few. The biggest thing is that most people are just not happy in their jobs. Some have achieved a high level of success financially but are starting to realize that it just doesn't mean anything. As people approach retirement they are fearful of not having their jobs thinking that they won't know what they will do both money wise and time wise.

For the last 30 years, my life really has been about pursuing a life filled with ease and happiness. I do work but it doesn't ever feel like work. I feel like I am playing. While doing massage for 20 years always was enjoyable it was starting to take it's toll on my body so for the last 10 years I have added in writing and making money with websites and other online programs.

I have been playing around with making money online for about 10 years. Most of what I know I learned from using Site Build it! (SBI!) . SBI! is about creating websites but it is also about creating an online business. The basic premise is that creating lots of content on a website strategically using keywords will bring traffic to your website. It requires that you have a lot of info running around in your head on specific topics. For me it has been the massage profession and I have filled 2 sites with over 1500 pages of content and keep adding more all the time. The way I make money primarily is through Google Adsense. Google allows you to put their adds on your site and when people click on them- you get paid a portion of that. How much? Well it was enough for me to drop my massage practice down to 2 days!

Now I am learning about another way to make money and that is promoting other people's products through affiliate programs through the Wealthy Affiliate Program. Affiliate programs are set up by various companies to help them sell their products which could be ebooks or digital materials or hard goods. When you sign up with them you will create links to their products and when people purchase them - you get paid a percentage of that amount. The thing is that you don't even really need a website although having a SBI! site can help you in choosing a topic and the keywords along with getting the site found. You can also just create landing pages on a site and use Pay per click advertising programs such as Google's Adwords to promote other people's products.

Whoever decided that we had to work for a living? Are you trapped into thinking that you have to work long hard hours in order to make a living? Who ever created that belief and stuck it in our heads?

Why we work is often because we want to please someone - usually our parents to begin with. We go to college and find jobs to support ourselves hoping that our parents will be pleased. When we choose careers based on pleasing others and neglect our own needs, most jobs/careers will end up with you feeling burned out, broke, neglected or all of those things and more.

Working doesn't have to be hard or long hours. You can create income from doing things that you love.

One of the best ways I have found to do that is by creating websites on the topics that I love and know a lot about. My first website - www.thebodyworker.com was basically everything I learned in massage school. It is about 700 pages and I still have notebooks full of notes to add. I started that site because I was burned out from doing massage and having my own business for 10 years. It became my therapy and then in about 2004 on sort of a fluke my sites started making me money. Enough so that I could cut back doing massage to just 2 days a week. I work at home on my sites the other days. My biggest source of income is through Google Adsense where Google allows me to put their ads on my website and when people click on them I get paid.

So the whole concept of work is changing into making money for play. What will we call the new work?
