Principles Of Living A Long and Healthy LIfe

Why You Age and How To Stay Young Longer

Aging is an inevitable process but it doesn't have to lead to getting "old" where your body breaks down and you don't or can't enjoy the activities and hobbies you used to enjoy. I understand because two of my passions are cycling and tennis. I just celebrated my 53rd birthday and each year that passes makes me realize time just keeps marching on. But you see,I don't want to be put on the "old peoples" court just barely able to run a ball down and hit it over the net. I also don't want to be left behind in a draft line on the bike while younger, less fit riders pass me by. I want to be out there playing with the "players" and running down balls and riding 25 to 35 miles on a beautiful fall day at 18 to 20 miles per hour and not breaking a sweat. Can a 50+ person outlast a 20's something athlete? It's possible. That is what I want to share with you in this article. You can control how fast you age.

Here are some principles on longevity to help you look and feel younger.

It All Starts With Your Mind Set

This first principle to living a long and healthy life may surprise you but it turns out that the best predictor of aging is your perception of how healthy you are. How do you compare yourself to others in your age group? Excellent; Very Good; Good; Fair; or Bad. If you answered fair or bad chances are you are 30 times more likely to die in the next two years! This is not to scare you but to help you understand you are the one in control of how healthy you are. You're the one who is responsible, not your doctor, your mother or even your spouse. It's you. The truth is you know in your gut how well you're living, you know how healthy you are and you know where your personal weaknesses are. It's these feelings that will lead you to realize you may not be headed in the right direction and ultimately motivate you to change course. Fortunately, science has given us options that we would not have had 5 years ago or even 1 year ago. One of the newest is the break through product from Shaklee called VIVIX-an anti-aging tonic equivalent to drinking 100 glasses of red wine a day. I'll share my experiences with VIVIX later on but for now let's look at the next longevity principle.

It's Not About Breaking Down As Much As It Is About Repairing

Let's face it stuff breaks and it wears out, that's a fact of life. So while we want to prevent breakdowns to begin with the real secret is how we recover and repair when we do break down. Our repair system begins in our cells. As we age our cells begin to lose the ability to repair cellular damage and the result is aging. So let me repeat this again-it all begins in the cell. If our cells are healthy and functioning at optimum we'll be healthy and functioning at optimum.

The Four Major Causes Of Cellular Aging

·DNA Damage:Every day every cell in our body is bombarded with up to a million DNA damaging assaults. What that means is every time you inhale smoke from a cigarette or eat a Crispy Cream Donut or even go for a 5 mile run you produce free radicals that assault your cells and can damage the genetic database. This creates a "typo" that weakens the cells ability to function and shortens the cell's longevity.
·Genetic Regulators: They are in every cell and either positively or negatively affect cellular aging.
·Declining Cellular Energy Production: The mitochondria in our cells create energy we can't live without. As our mitochondria efficiency decreases cell function decreases and our energy levels decrease.
·Accumulation of AGE Proteins:The end products of the breakdown of glycogen in our cells which clogs them up and the cells no longer functions at peak levels and begin to break down.

Aging Is Inevitable But The Rate Of Aging Is Not

The way we traditionally think of aging is everything slowly and painfully starts breaking down and the end result is a lot of people with creaky joints, crooked fingers, stiff backs and poor memory. Our cells start to breakdown, our systems fail and we grow old. But aging is not only about the cellular processes, but also how you respond to and deal with outside factors-like stress and slippery sidewalks. Aging is more about the rate of aging. Scientists know your rate of aging doubles every 8 years. If you could maintain a 40 year old's rate of aging you would live past 120 and "die of old age." It's both inside and outside factors that affect the rate of aging that you need to manage. If you do that you'll be able to slow the real culprit of growing old -the rate of aging.

It's Not About One Big Problem But Many Little Ones That Add Up

The best example to explain this comes from the book, "YOU Staying Young." by Dr.Oz & Dr. Roizen

"A good way to think about aging is to imagine you're looking through a dozen slices of stacked-up Swiss cheese. If the holes are small and the slices are thick, you can't see through the stack. Now pretend that each of these Swiss cheese slices represents a layer of protection that your body provides to prevent aging. People who are vibrant and strong may have small holes in their system-stuff that lets through a few problems, but nothing too major. Maybe they've got a little hole in their slice of heart health, and a few little holes in their slice of brain health, and a medium-sized hole in their slice of chromosome health. Nothing major let's you see through the stack.

As aging takes effect, however, those holes can get a little bigger, or the cheese slice can get a little thinner. When big holes from one slice perfectly align with big holes from another slice, then, in effect, you've got big problems. That's a little bit of what aging is like; The small problems may not have a big effect here and there, but when they grow, and when they interact with other problems, then you've created what we like to call a (cue scary orchestra music)web of causality. That's when seemingly small health problems spiral into bigger ones-all triggered by several different causes."

If you've looked at your cheese stack and found it full of holes you may be feeling a little depressed and perhaps a bit overwhelmed with the bad news but there's good news as well. You can repair some of the damage that has taken place in your cells. Let's go on to the next principle.

You Can Reverse The Aging Process

It's about cause and effect-what we eat, do and think today will affect how we feel, look and age tomorrow. The truth is you have the ability to live 35 percent longer than expected which means you can get to 100 or more and enjoy a good quality of life along the way. You will hit bumps and bruises big and small along the way but growing old is not as inevitable as you think. It's never too late or too early to start making changes in your life to reverse or slow down the aging process. Find the weak links in your armor and start to fix them. It's the cumulative effects of these changes that will make the big difference when it comes to increasing the length and quality of your life. Just because you've made mistakes in the past doesn't mean you can't change the effects. You control 70% of how fast or slow you age. The future is in your hands.

You Can Have A Second Chance If You Want It.

The effect of following a good habit for three years is as if you've done it your entire life. In fact, after just three months you will see a measurable difference in your life expectancy.

It's Your Biological Age That Counts

It's not your age in years that matters it's how old or young you feel. You may be 53 but look and feel like you're 40 or you may be 30 and look and feel like you're 45. Want to find out your biological age? Check out www.realage.com. Not only will you find out your true age but you'll get a personalized plan to help fix some of the "holes."

Now that you understand the difference between your biological age and your chronological age and you have some steps to follow that will help reverse or slow down the aging process. You can start today to make changes that will have an impact on your health 10 years from now. If you take care of yourself and your health now and fix the little things before they become big problems you will live a longer and healthier life. It's really about your mindset, if you believe you can affect a difference in your health and longevity then you will start doing the activities that will make a difference. The responsibility lies with you but science is on your side. As I said earlier there have been recent scientific discoveries that are giving us options to slowing down the aging process we didn't have a few years ago. This is why I am so excited about VIVIX. Remember the 4 major causes of cellular aging? VIVIX positively impacts all four. No other anti-aging tonic, super juice or anti-oxidant drink can do that or even claim it.

I promised at the beginning of this article to tell you more about this new anti-aging tonic. I've been using it for a month and a half now. The very first change I noticed is I was sleeping better at night and waking up rested in the morning, next I noticed the few age spots on the back of my hand were fading, and the spider veins on my legs began to disappear. The biggest difference though has been my energy level. It stays steady all day long, I'm riding bike faster even though I haven't been training and I outlasted a 20 something on the tennis court this weekend. One of the key ingredients is resveratrol-the beneficial ingredient discovered in red wine.
