Un livre audio est un livre ou un texte dont on a enregistré la lecture à haute voix. On l'ecoute donc plutot que de le lire.

Traditionnellement, son support etait la cassette audio, mais depuis quelques annees, on le trouve sur disque compact ou sous la forme de fichiers numeriques en telechargement, principalement aux formats MP3, Audible, Ogg Vorbis, ou encore .m4b (AAC avec chapitres).

Les livres audio sont beaucoup utilises par les aveugles ou mal-voyants, mais aussi par les dyslexiques. Il peut-etre utilise aussi comme on ecoute la radio.

Tres repandu aux Etats-Unis, en Grande-Bretagne, en Italie, en Allemagne ou encore en Europe du Nord, le livre audio progresse lentement en France.
