Welcome to LizArt Design on Squidoo!

LizArt Design began in 2001 as a dual business: a tie-dye company and a freelance graphic design services company.

In 2005, the tie-dye arm of the business closed, but we're still here - creating new graphic designs and playing with our new camera to learn to take great nature photos (and pics through the kaleidoscope!)

The LizArt Design shop on CafePress officially launched on November 6, 2008, in time for the holiday season. Our graphic designs and photos celebrate color, light and life! When you visit us at www.cafepress.com/lizartdesign, you'll find stunning nature images, photos from inside a kaleidoscope, colorful digital art, and much more, on great gift items, stationery, clothing, and art prints. You'll even find a few abstract notecards digitally created from photos we took of our early tie-dye shirts!

We're always trying to strech to do something just a bit different than everyone else, so come on by and visit. If you enjoy light, colorful designs (some with a bit of humor thrown in -- like our Hoppy Holidays notecard!)... then you've come to the right place!

Section I. Valentines Designs

Great designs that celebrate love - for Valentines Day or any day!

Great t-shirts, sweatshirts, boxers, thongs, teddy bears, and other great gift ideas for valentines Day or any day.

Some behind-the-scenes factiods on the below designs:

1) I'm just now learning to use Illustrator, as I grew up with CorelDraw. It's like learning a whole new language! I decided that I'd create all of my new Valentines designs solely in Illustrator, to stretch as a designer and force myself to learn the program. My latest creation (as of 1/15/09) is the "Love Colors" design below. It's one of my favorites to date, and I learned a bunch of new tricks while creating it. :-)

2) The "Hit by Love" design was born serendipitously when I ran a bunch of hearts vertically, and thought, "hmmmm, that looks like a tire tread!" I played with it a bit, found an amazing font that looked 'run over,' and played with the "Hit and Run" concept until the words came together. While a departure from my usual style -- I think it works.

Section II. Through the Kaleidoscope

Items showcasing photos taken through a real kaleidoscope!

The sun was streaming through the window on a bright November morning, and the new camera and kaleidoscope sat on a shelf nearby. As I looked at the two items together, a thought began to percolate..."I wonder what would happen if...." A few ridiculous gyrations later, I had snapped my first fuzzy image through the kaleidoscope, and the rest is history! In the coming weeks, this section will be expanded into its own Squidoo lens, but for now, consider this your sneak peek -- through the kaleidoscope!

Did you know...

The world's largest kaleidoscope, located in Mt. Tremper, N.Y., is 64 ft (19.5 m) tall. There is no eyepiece; people stand inside the base to view the image, which is projected downward onto three reflective panels to produce a spherical cluster of 254 hexagonal facets that appears to be 50 feet across.

Section III. Nature Photos

Beautiful photos of butterflies, bugs and more!

The new camera got a great workout in October 2008 at a local botanical garden. Aw heck, I'll give them a plug... I took nearly all of these photos at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Vienna, VA. It's one of the coolest places in my little world, and if you're quiet and patient, you can see some amazing things.

Section IV: Abstract Designs

Bold graphic designs on a variety of gifts and items for your home

This is a section where the random abstract stuff hangs out. Want a cool clock or an abstract pillow? How about some tile coasters in a modern dots pattern? Check out the products and links below.

Section V: Tie Dye Designs

Well, it's no secret that for four years here at LizArt Design we made tie-dye tshirts and scrunchies and socks and hats and hairbands, and just about anything else you can think of that was cotton and dye-able. Those days are over for now, but some of our designs have been immortalized on notecards. One has been made into a journal cover, and we've even used one to create the text in our "Hippie Days are here again" design.

The notecards were a huge hit back in the days we participated in local fairs and festivals, and the quality of the ones that CafePress prints is far superior to the ones I printed on my little inkjet back in 2001. Check out all six tie-dye notecard designs by clicking here, or go directly to the item page on the three top sellers below.

Section VI: Say it with Style

Wear or carry these designs to make a statement

We have a couple "green" designs that have sold well, and the Chillax design is our best-selling clothing item to date! If you have an idea or a statement that you'd like to see on a LizArt shirt - let us know in the last module!

Section VII: Color-in Designs

Be truly unique and color it in your way!

With these, your shirt will truly be one-of-a-kind. Think of these designs as a coloring book for adults (although kid sizes are available too, and we'll eventually have some more youthful designs.) Grab your nearest fabric markers or paints, and create your masterpiece. The black lines are there -- just color 'em in! I have done a few of the Floral design ones myself, and they are pretty cool. My nieces and I did a few together too, and they love wearing their creations. One niece colored outside the lines by making little stars all over the sleeves and the back of the shirt. Totally unique, and totally cool. What will you do with yours?!

Section VIII: The Unfrown.com Blog

About Little Things to Make You Smile

I started this blog in November 2008 as a place to showcase some of my CafePress designs, but also to share with the world some cool products on the web, as well as some musings on general happiness, kindness, and humanity. Head on over to unfrown.com and check it out! Excerpts from the latest three posts are listed below.
