- Born April 17, 1976, New Haven, CT, as Elizabeth Clark Phair.
- Adopted and raised in a Chicago suburb.
- Graduated from Oberlin College in 1989 as an art major.
- Moved to San Francisco after college to pursue artistic endeavors.
- Later moved back to Chicago & released her homemade tapes under the name Girlysound.
- The tapes got around to Matador records, who signed Liz in 1992.
- Summer of 1993: Released her debut album Exile in Guyville.
- 1994: Released second album Whip-Smart; it debuted at #27.
- 1995: Married Chicago film editor Jim Staskausas, who had worked on some of Liz's videos.
- 1996: Performed at Lilith Fair.
- December 21, 1996: Liz had her first child, James Nicholas Staskausas.
- 1998: Released 3rd album, whitechocolatespaceegg.
- 2001: Divorced Jim S.
- 2003: Released 4th album, Liz Phair.
- 2005: Released 5th album, Somebody's Miracle.
