Ljubljana - Capital city of Slovenia

Ljubljana is the capital and the largest city in Slovenia. It has approximately 270.000 inhabitants. Ljubljana has a beautiful old town centre, which lies by the Ljubljanica River. The symbol of the city is the dragon, which symbolizes power, courage and greatness. Ljubljana has varied historical past. The Roman settlement Emona already sprang up in the year 15. The most famous architect is Joze Plecnik, whose buildings can be seen on every step. The main remarkableness are located in the old town centre and are the Ljubljana Castle, Town House, Chapel of Saint Jurij, Three Bridges, church of Saint Nikolaj and many other. To Ljubljana Castle you can have a ride with the cable railway.

City Centre of LjubljanaCity Centre has many interesting buildings as are the Franciscan Monastery and the Church of the Annunciation, Preseren's Square and the monument, Three bridges, Slovenian Philharmonic, University of Ljubljana, museums, galleries, old houses and many other. Preseren Square was named by the famous Slovenian poet, France Preseren. The city centre is always very vivid, especially in the summer time when lots of events are taking place. The most beautiful view to the city centre is from the Ljubljana Castle. If you do not like to walk, you can take a ride with a cable railway.

The Tivoli ParkThe Tivoli Park is the largest park in Ljubljana. It has many walking paths and people like to visit it in every time of the year. You can walk, take a jogg, sit on the bench and do many other things. The Tivoli Park was open in the year 1813. The Jakopic Promenade that goes through the park was designed by the famous architect Joze Plecnik. The most interesting buildings in the Tivoli Park are the Tivoli Castle, the Tivoli Sport Hall and the National Museum of Contemporary History. In the nearness of the park is the small hill Roznik, which is also very popular place for local people.

Smarna gora HillSmarna gora Hill is a very popular smaller hill for hiking. It attracts many local people and other visitors through all the year. You can go to the Smarna gora Hill from different ways, but the most visited is the path from the place called Tacen. From the parking place to the peak is about 30 or 40 minutes of walking. On the top is the interesting late Gothic church and the restaurant Ledinek, where you can get delicious Slovenian food. The most known is the tea and the salty pretzel. From the hill is a nice view to the capital Slovenian city, Ljubljana.

Kayaking Course TacenTacen is a small village near Ljubljana. It belongs to the Quarter Community Smarna Gora. Tacen is famous by the kayak centre on the Sava River. The honorary members of the club became in the year 2010 very successful former competitors which are Andraz Vehovar, Miha Terdic and Joze Vidmar. From parking place in Tacen is a starting point to the Smarna Gora Hill, which is a popular place for hiking.
