Every Day is Valentine's Day

In a nationwide survey, men said that the quality of their life was determined by good health, harmonious family life and a good relationship with their wife/partner. Mind over matter may be the key to sexual satisfaction, according to this study.

Scientists have discovered that your brain and thoughts affect your libido and hold the key to a more fulfilling love life.

The olfactory nerve, the part of the brain associated with smell is closely connected to the limbic system. It is concerned with our most subtle responses like emotion, memory, sex-drive and intuition.

Sensuality is the experience of the senses - sights, sounds, tastes, smells, and touch. Here you will see a glimpse of how a few scents have been used around the world and throughout time to express intimacy and love.

The Neurological Roots of Sexual Pleasure

Your love life and sexual desire are complex issues that require more than treatment with potency pills or hormones to bring back the fireworks.

According a May 2008 report in Scientific American, "Sexual desire, as well as orgasm, are controlled by various influences on the brain and nervous system. Brain imaging studies show that achieving orgasm involves far more than arousal. It requires a release of inhibitions, culminating in a shutdown of the brain's center of vigilance in both sexes, and widespread neural power failure in women." Without that initial psychological impetus, potency pills have no effect.

Anxiety, defensiveness, and stress can dampen your libido by reducing desire. Feeling pressured to perform can turn the act of love into a task that must be completed well.

How Fragrances Touch the Heart

Smell is the strongest sense tied to memory. Just a whiff of a familiar scent can jog a fond memory and influence your emotions.

Within the limbic system resides the seat of your sexuality, the impulse of attraction and aversion, your motivation and moods, memory and creativity.

Aromatherapy using natural essential oils tantalize the sense of smell and have the power to enhance your love life.

How Scent Enhances Libido

The first thing you notice about essential oils is how divine they smell.

The ability of aroma to enhance libido and sexual arousal was documented in a double-blind, randomized study, conducted by Dr. Alan Hirsch.

When 31 male volunteers were subjected to the aromas of 30 essential oils, each one exhibited a marked increase in arousal.

Researchers found that essential oils such as vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood, sandalwood, and frankincense can increase oxygen in the brain by up to 28%. This can have dramatic effects on emotions, learning and attitude, as well as hormone balance and energy levels.

Pure Scents for Romance

Originally, perfumes were produced using only natural essential oils. Today, however, we cannot find a single commercial perfume that consists of these oils only. In the last 30 years, synthetically produced fragrances have assumed the place essential oils once held in the marketplace.

But, with a few essential oils, you can create your own personal fragrance. Here are some of the all-natural essential oils and blends appeal to both genders and meet the criteria for a sex stimulant:

For Women:
geranium, ylang ylang (sex drive problem), clary sage, nutmeg, black pepper, cinnamon bark (general)

For Men
myrrh, black pepper, pine, cinnamon bark, ylang ylang, ginger, rose, goldenrod (impotence).

Pure essential oils can be massaged on the skin, inhaled, added to bath water, or taken orally as dietary supplements. Jasmine absolute can also be used in inhalation therapy or topical use, but must never be ingested.

Jasmine Essence

Jasminum officinale

Jasmine has a warm, exotic, floral fragrance that relaxes, soothes, uplifts, and enhances self-confidence. Its aroma is as precious as the rose.

Jasmine has been used throughout history for romance and balancing the feminine energy of the body.

Japan researchers found that diffusing jasmine during test taking, scores increased by as much as 33 percent.

Because Jasmine absolute is so concentrated, it should be diluted 1 part oil to 10 parts carrier oil.

Ylang Ylang

Cananga odorata

The beautiful yellow flower is so exotic and its perfume is so extraordinary that it is known as the "flower of flowers"

Ylang ylang helps balance sexual emotion and sex drive problems. Its aromatic influence elevates sexual energy and enhances relationships.

Cinnamon Bark

Cinnamomum verum

Cinnamon bark essential oil may be one of the true aphrodisiacs. In a recent study where men were asked to sniff a number of fragrances to score them as to their "turn-on" quality, cinnamon won hands down.

The oil has a spicy scent loved around the world. It is best to dilute cinnamon bark with a carrier oil before topical administration or direct inhalation.

Usage tip: Cinnamon oil can be used in cooking. It increases the action of enzymes that break down food in the body, aiding in the metabolic process.

To make delicious Cinnamon Tea, place 1 drop of cinnamon bark to a cup, add hot water and enjoy.

Diffuse cinnamon oil in the home to lift spirits. Cinnamon oil is known as a natural anti-depressant.

Geranium

Pelargonium graveolens

Geranium has been used for centuries to regenerate and heal skin conditions.

Geranium helps relieve negative memories and eases nervous tension. It balances the emotions, lifts the spirit, fosters peace, well-being, and hope.

Application: Apply 2-4 drops on location (chakra/vita-flex points), inhale, or diffuse.

Ginger

Xingiber officinale

Ginger has a warm, spicy fragrance that is energizing. Traditionally it is used to combat nausea.

Women in the West African country of Senegal weave belts of ginger root to restore their mate's sexual potency.

Usage tip: Directly inhale or dilute 50/50 with carrier oil and apply 2-4 drops on location.

"A Rose is a Rose is a Rose"

Rosa damascena

Rose has a beautiful floral and sweet fragrance that is highly romantic. It helps bring balance and harmony, with uplifting properties that create a sense of well being. It has long been valued for its intoxicating floral aroma.

Though the essential oil is expensive, rose is a scent almost everyone loves, and in its natural form can be enjoyed by anyone.

One bottle of Rose can last a long time because one should use the tinest bit and add it to a carrier oil in a small bottle.

The Rose of Love

Rose oil has the highest electromagnetic frequency (320 MHz) of any oil. Its aroma is physically, mentally, and spiritually elevating. Many eye witnesses to miracles, visions, and spiritual manifestations have reported the scent of roses lingering about the site of the experience.

You can happy-up an entire room of people with just one drop of Rose oil on your own wrists. It smells divine. The scent goes straight to the heart and opens up the energy in that area.

"I attended a friend's wedding and they used Young Living's Rose oil and rubbed it into their partner's heart three times clockwise while saying their wedding vows. How creative and special is that?" - Rebecca of Little Miss Oils

The Language of Touch

A carrier oil may be used to dilute the essential oil or serve as a base for a personalized perfume.

Sensation Massage Oil is a combination of a carrier oil and essential oils. It creates an exotic arousal and increases sexual desire. The fragrance creates a peaceful and harmonious feeling that helps to ease relationship stress.

A beautiful scented massage and cleansing oil may be made by combining 1 bottle of Sensation Body Lotion with 10 drops of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil. Shake well. Massage a few drops on the shoulders and spine morning and night.

Here's another formulation that smells divine:

Crème Josephine

1-2 oz Relaxation, V6 or Sensation Massage Oil
10 d jasmine
10 d sandalwood
Add the jasmine and sandalwood to the massage oil. Use as a skin softener or crème "perfume"

Create a Romantic Atmosphere

Diffusing Essential Oils

One of the best ways to create a romantic atmosphere is to diffuse pure essential oils. I like the cold air diffuser. Another good choice is the ultrasonic diffuser, which is capable of diffusing any essential oil by atomizing cold water and essential oils. It includes a timer with five cycle options, a soothing light system to help create a calming mood in your home.

The travel fan diffuser provides convenience and portability to essential oil diffusing. The travel fan diffuser using a quiet but powerful mini fan and high-density essential oil pads, and can fill a room as large as 1,000 square feet.

Safety Factors: Essential Oils versus Fragrance Oils

There are two kinds of scents - artificial fragrances and natural essential oils.

Fragrance on a label can indicate the presence of up to 4,000 separate ingredients. Some problems caused by these chemicals include headaches, dizziness, rash, hyper-pigmentation, violent coughing, vomiting, skin irritation-the list goes on. They can also trigger asthma.

Pthalates are used to keep fragrance chemicals in solution. These chemicals have been shown to enter the bloodstream and concentrate in fat cells. They are extremely potent estrogen mimics. High levels of estrogen have been known to cause cancer.

DEP is the phthalate found in the highest levels in humans and a study published in Environmental Health Perspectives (December 2002) found that DEP is damaging to the DNA of sperm in adult men at current levels of exposure. DNA damage to sperm can lead to infertility and may also be linked to miscarriages, birth defects, infertility and cancer in offspring. Recent product tests found the chemical in every fragrance tested in the United States.

Why choose a fake, potentially fatal fragrance when pure essential oils are so beautifully balancing and life-promoting?

Essential oils, properly administered, produce no harmful side effects. On the contrary, they mobilize the body's own self healing powers.

Essential oils should never be used in the eyes or ears in that these membranes are delicate and sensitive.

When choosing an essential oil, look for "100 percent pure therapeutic grade essential oil" on the label.
