No one should ever lose their home because a bunch of crooked politicians and bankers decided to drive the economy into a ditch.

It's not right and it shouldn't happen.

I'm on a crusade to make sure people understand why they don't have to become a foreclosure victim. You CAN save your home.

I was inspired to put together this lens and others on this topic after browsing through this great site on how loan modification works.

I still think it's the best way to learn about this topic, and I hope you check it out sooner rather than later.

Enjoy the rest of this lens. I hope it helps.

What is Loan Modification

What the heck happened?

How did the economy go from boom to bust overnight?

If you ask me, people like us -- homeowners who in good faith played by the rules the banks and the government were laying down -- are the victims in all of this.

Thankfully, we still live in America. And when there's a need, people will rise up and fill that need. That's exactly what's happened with loan modification.

First, what is loan modification? Well, it's a relatively new industry as I've learned. It's born out of (sort of, but not really) something that's been around for ages called loss mitigation.

Just about every bank has what's called a loss mitigation department. These are guys who basically try and limit the bank's losses when they have to foreclose on a home.

It involves mostly "short selling" -- or someone who helps sell a home quickly, and usually at below market value, so the bank can recoup at least part of what it's owed and do so quickly.

It's good for the banks but, as you'd expect, crappy for the homeowner.

You still lose their home.

Hey, thanks for nothing, right?

Loan modification is something different. It's not loss mitigation and it's not refinancing (another common misconception).

Loan modification is exactly what it sounds like -- a way to modify the terms of your loan, permanently and in your favor, to reduce your payment to something you can afford.

It's one of the only solutions that KEEPS YOU IN YOUR HOME!

And that's the goal here, isn't it? It's not to make the banks happy or minimize their losses.

Who cares about them. You care about keeping your home, about not uprooting your family and losing everything you've worked probably your who life for.

Loan modification has this power.

Is Loan Modification for You?

Of course I can't answer that because I don't know you, but I will say this...

About 30,000,000 (that's 30 million if you're not good with all those zeroes) are good candidates for loan modification.

And here's the amazing thing...

Basically, the worse off you are, the better the loan modification candidate you are!

Finally some good news right?

Now, it's important to approach this the right way. Banks are desperate, but they're not stupid. They're not simply going to give away the farm just because you ask.

I mentioned above that, thanks to the fact we live in America, companies are going to start recognizing this need and rise up to fill the void.

There are now attorneys who do nothing all day long but harass the banks, cajole them, do everything short of threaten them to make good by their customers and get the terms of these mortgages down to a place where people like you and me can actually afford our payments.

But do you qualify for their help?

The easiest way to find out is to go here and fill out this form. (Click on the link to do it now.)

Take Action. This Isn't Going to Go Away.

I know your first instinct when you start to fall behind is to ignore the problem.

I've been a victim of that myself. You get a knot in your stomach when you go to check the mail, wondering how many late notices, or final notices, are going to be in the box that day.

It stinks. (That's putting it mildly, right?)

But the least you can do -- if you do nothing else -- is to take action to save your home.

Your family is counting on you to do this. To find the courage. You have to.

Some day, you'll look back on this period in your life and thank God that you found the strength to face the problem head on and deal with it.

You'll thank yourself. And your family will thank you.

You'll be glad you did.

A lot of people confuse loan modification with loss mitigation. Loan modification has some similar features, but that's not really what it is. Anyway, here's some background on that.
