Presidential Primary
In the first "beauty contest" in 1952, General Dwight D. Eisenhower defeated Senator Robert Taft and Senator Estes Kefauver upset President Harry) Truman.Since the 1952 primary New Hampshire has done everything it could to hold on to its place as the first primary. States have tried again and again to usurp the role New Hampshire plays but none have succeeded. Of course this could change but for now New Hampshire enjoys its place in the limelight and having every candidate spend lots of time and money in the state.
