Konnichi Wa!
This lens is all about special local sushi rolls. It seems that everybody I talk to has a regional favorite form of makisushi that can't be found in other restaurants, or towns, or regions.
I thought that it would be fun to have a lens where people could tell each other about their own favorite local sushi and what's in the rolls, and then we could ask our own sushi chef to make us one!
What is Makisushi?
Makizushi (lit. rolled sushi). A cylindrical piece, formed with the help of a bamboo mat, called a makisu. Makizushi is generally wrapped in nori, but can occasionally be found wrapped in a thin omelette, sesame seeds, cucumber, or parsley.[1] Makizushi is usually cut into six or eight pieces, which constitutes an order. The most well known makisushi in the US is probably the California Roll, which is made using cooked crab meat, avocado, vinegared rice, and cucumber, rolled in nori seaweed with the rice on the OUTSIDE of the roll, and sometimes then rolled in either sesame seeds or tobiko (flying fish roe).

In the San Francisco Bay Area, Palo Alto's Fuki Sushi has this awesome Spicy Scallop Tempura Roll, containing scallop tempura, tobiko, cucumber and a spicy sauce. It is absolutely heavenly.

Kappa maki is just... boring. Cucumber and rice? I don't need to pay $5 a serving for that!
