Loch Island - The Perfect Ontario Lodge
Discover your home away from home....

I've always loved being outdoors. Whether I'm spending time camping or just enjoying my time in the back yard cooking up a storm on the BBQ. When I can, I like to spend some of my weekends fishing with the boys. Every summer we always take a week long trip, and we were lucky enough to find the perfect destination at an Ontario lodge.
The lodge I'm talking about is Loch Island Lodge. Loch Island not only boosts some of the best fishing in Northern Ontario, Canada, but its also offers many options from how you reach the lodge, to where on the vast Wabatongushi lake you stay. No matter what you choose the fishing is guaranteed phenomenal, and all the amenities of home are offered.
The cabins us boys stayed in were extremely nice. They offered the same "log house" feel as the main lodge and were just as comfortable as being at home. In fact, you'll find this "home away from home" comfortable enough to bring your wife along, and she would be happy while you're out looking to catch the big one to give you bragging rights for the rest of your stay.
Another great benefit of staying at this great Ontario lodge, is you can also choose to be responsible for your own meals in your own cabin, or you can enjoy home cooked meals prepared daily by the friendly staff at Loch Island.
After a long day out on the lake, and great meal, the boys and I were able to relax every night next to a huge bon fire. This was, of course, after we had a sauna and played a bit of pool in the main lodge.
Loch Island has become my favorite fishing lodge to visit. I love it so much, in fact, that I make a point to visit every year. The fishing is always fantastic, the people are always friendly and it has become my home away from home.
If you're looking for a great Ontario lodge to visit, this is definitely a place to try. You won't regret it!
Camp Lochalsh
A Little Bit of Heaven
During one of my visits to my favorite Ontario Lodge which is known as Loch Island Lodge, I had heard about another set of cabins that they had offered on the main land which was actually called Camp Lochalsh. As much as I have enjoyed all of my visits to Loch Island, I thought I would give Lochalsh a chance the next time I decided to make the trip.I was extremely pleased that I had decided to do so. This camp is actually located about 5 miles or so South of Loch Island, and as I found out later it wasn't far from either Otter Island or Sandy Bay.
The resort itself is just as beautiful as Loch Island. During my stay I was actually able to stay in what is called the "George Pierriot Cabin". I later found out that it is named this, due to the fact that George Pierriot use to actually visited Lochalsh in the 60's with his "World Adventure Series" show.
I have to tell you that I loved this cabin. It's extremely comfortable with all of the amenities that you receive at Loch Island, such as comfortable bedrooms, bathroom and it even has a glassed-in porch where I enjoyed my mornings as I sipped on my cup of coffee and took in the beautiful view of the lake. Another great thing about this cabin is that we were not far from the docks, hot tub, sauna or the horseshoe pits which was also nice, since we liked to use these items in our down time, after we came off the lake during an excellent day of fishing.
When I visit new places like this, I do like to take my time and walk around the Lodge and take a look around to see what they offer. Now I have children, well maybe Children isn't exactly the word I'm looking for since they are teenagers now. However as I walked around the area, I noticed just what exactly Camp Lochalsh has to offer, not just for the avid outdoors person such as you and myself but to a family who also enjoys spending time outdoors as well.
Aside from the Hot tub, sauna, horseshoe pits and obvious swimming, the camp also offers basketball hoops, ping pong, board games and cards as well, everything a family needs to help make sure the kids are occupied.
Now I don't know about you, but that's a wonderful deal. As much as I enjoy my stays at Loch Island Lodge, I greatly enjoyed my stay at Camp Lochalsh as well. I know in the future that no matter if I'm on the main land or on the Island, either way I'll be happy.
Otter Island
A Great Little Private Retreat
During one of my first visits to Loch Island, after having only spent a day or two I began making plans to go back. While I was making plans with the boy's to head for another trip to do some great fishing I found out%u2026that they were booked. I'll admit it, I was pretty bummed out when they told me that. Everything I had seen at this lodge, I've loved. They did however tell me, that they had an opening at Otter Island. It only took me about...oh not even a minute to make up my mind. It's just a few miles from Loch Island and it's in the center of the lake, so we booked our accommodations. When we came back; we were brought over to the island by boat. When we got out of the boat and we were brought up to our cabin, we were greeted with everything we would generally find at Loch Island, with one exception, no electricity, but that's not a need now is it?
Otter Island was absolutely ideal for fishing either northern pike or walleye. Are you familiar with burbot at all? Well people like to refer to the burbot as the "poor man's lobster", they are in fact a member of fresh water cod and are actually considered delicacies throughout the world. Not bad right? Well we were informed that there sure was some burbot in that lake.
While we stayed at the island, we were offered the option of either staying under the Housekeeping plan, or going with what's called the "American package". Well we thought we would mix it up a little bit, the first night we decided to keep with the Housekeeping plan, which was making our own dinner at our lodge but during our second night we made our way over to Loch Island for our meals, it was only a short boat right anyway. Besides, it gave us another opportunity to cast some lines.
The boys and I had a lot of fun staying out at Otter Island. This great little secret allows you some isolation if you don't mind it, but you are still offered everything you need. The fishing was amazing, we came up empty handed with burbot, but we're going to go back and try again. It's hard to choose which stay has been "The best" they all have been wonderful with a lot of fun memories. All I know is that I will often return to my favorite Ontario Lodge.

- Thank you rockycha.
If you are around the area it's definitely one that you should consider going too. Even for someone who might not enjoy all the hunting, fishing or hiking...it's still a great place to just get away. Everything else is just a bonus :D

- I've found that my best fishing comes from Up North. Do you have a favorite spot that you like to visit? Have you ever tried Wabatongushi?
