Lodge Logic 7-Quart Dutch Oven with Spiral Handle Bail and Iron Cover

The Lodge Logic 7-Quart Dutch Oven with Spiral Handle Bail and Iron Cover is an indispensable tool in the kitchen.  I use my Dutch oven several times a week to make soup, stew or a casserole.  I even use it to make plum jam when my plum tree bears fruit.  Cast iron cookware is tried and true and when seasoned and used properly it can last for generations.  Many of our grandmothers cooked in cast iron cook ware.

A Crusty Bread Maker

5.0 out of 5 stars, Crusty bread maker March 1, 2008

This is back to the future. We purchased this Dutch Oven specifically to bake crusty bread and this works marvelously. The kettle is well made and best of all, it comes preseasoned, so no fear of getting this to work without the bread dough sticking in the kettle. Did I mention the great price?

Lots of information on cast iron cookware

Cooking with Cast Iron
Even though heavy iron cookware was first brought to North America by the early settlers of New England, none appreciate the pots and pans like the cooks of the South. Every home cook has at least one well-seasoned skillet they couldn't imagine cooking without, and many have corn stick and muffin pans, grill pans, and larger kettles or Dutch ovens, all made of heavy cast iron.
How to Season Cast Iron Pans
Please don't throw away that old cast iron frying pan that was your mothers or grandmothers! Clean it! As long as it has no cracks or nicks, you can clean, season, and use it.
How to Cook with Cast Iron
You can use a single cast-iron skillet for just about any cooking task: Bake a cake, sear a filet, roast or fry a chicken, fry potatoes, stir-fry vegetables, etc. One skillet is all you need, but because cast-iron cooking is lot of fun and makes the food you cook taste great, you'll probably going to want more than one cast-iron pan

We mostly use ours when we camp. I need to get more for the kitchen. My mother's cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet was unbeatable!

I don't like it. I have another favorite type of cookware.

How I lived so long without this dutch oven I'll never know. It is the best. I've used it a number of times both in the oven and on the grill and each time the food has been great. Comes seasoned and is very easy to clean.

I have two dutch ovens one made of cast iron the other is surgical stainless steel cookware. Both are great for cooking though the cast iron is very heavy and can be a pain to clean.
