Log Cabin BIrdhouses Add a Rustic Touch to Your Backyard

Our Nostalgia for Log Cabins
The log cabin holds a special place in the history and hearts of the United States. These log homes take us back to a time that in retrospect seems full of romance and adventure, although the reality probably was not quite so nice. In spite of that Americans love log cabins, and one of the easiest ways to get one in your yard is in the form of a log cabin bird house.

Types of Log Cabin Homes
There are log cabin birdhouses in a variety of styles. You can find some that are quite simple, resembling a single room cabin. From there you can go up in size to some that look more like a mansion than a cabin. And there are some to fit almost anyone's budget. Some are less than ten dollars.
Some of todays log cabin birdhouses are actually made from bamboo. Bamboo bird houses look like traditional log cabins, and you may not even be able to identify one by looking, but have the advantage of being made from a sustainable resource like bamboo.

The History of Log Cabins
Log cabins were built from logs cut from the surrounding forests and then were laid horizontally. The logs were notched and interlocked, although sometimes they were simply spiked together to secure them. The gaps in between the logs were often filled with mud or grass to weatherproof it, but you won't typically find that on bird houses ;-)
US Presidents and Log Cabins
There were a total of seven United States Presidents born in log cabins. Of course the most famous of these presidents was Abraham Lincoln. A tidbit of trivia on Honest Abe; the State of Illinois claims to be "The Land of Lincoln" as stated on their license plates but as you probably know, Abe was born in the State of Kentucky!

- These birdhouses remind me of log cabins that I would want to spend vacations in. One day I would like to invest my money and buy a cabin where I can take my friends and family. There's just something about log cabins that make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Bear Lake cabins
