Logitech G9 And G9x Mouse
Ranked #2,175 in Computers & Electronics, #38,043 overall
What is the Logitech G9x?
The Logitech G9x mouse is the most advanced mouse to be released by Logitech to date. Featuring a cutting edge 5,700dpi laser sensor it is probably the best gaming mouse you can buy at the moment.
The Logitech G9x mouse is a development of the popular Logitech G9 that was first released in 2007. The G9 featured a 3,200dpi laser sensor and a variety of other cool features:
- Adjustable DPI settings, from as low as 200dpi all the way up to 5,700dpi
- Two grips that can be swapped easily, giving you a choice of shape to make the G9 more comfortable to hold
- Program the buttons and store up to 5 different profiles in the Logitech G9's onboard memory
- Custom colour LEDs that tell you the current profile and DPI setting
- Variable weights, allowing you to add up to an additional 28g to the wight of the mouse
Now the Logitech G9x takes this design a step further with the new sensor. Building on the strengths of the G9, the G9x mouse is one of the best gaming mice you can buy.
An Innovative New Feature - Logitech G9 Grips

A clever feature of the both the Logitech G9 and G9x mice is the ability to swap the grips, altering the shape and feel of the mouse.
Both mice come with two grips as standard, the XL and Precision.
The XL grip is for people who like to move the mouse with the palm of their hand. It is a wider grip, with a thumb rest and a satin finish for extra comfort.
The Precision grip is aimed at people who like to hold the mouse with their fingertips. It gives the mouse a more compact shape to make it easier to hold.

Take a look at some of the examples below:
Customisable ID Grip

A cool new feature on the Logitech G9 and G9x is the customisable ID grip. This is a grip that is purchased separately to the mouse and can be ordered with a picture of your choice printed onto the top.
Logitech offer a set of their own designs, but you can take (almost) any image of your own choosing and have it printed onto the grip.
Variable Weights

Another feature of the G9 and G9x mouse is the ability to change its weight. A removable tray slides out from the back of the mouse, and this can be loaded with your choice of up to four weights from the supplied container.
The weights are either 4grams or 7grams so you can add anything up to 28grams to the weight of the mouse. Whether you prefer your mouse to be light or heavy, the Logitech G9x should be capable of suiting your needs.
G9 vs G9x - What's The Difference?
Logitech decided to upgrade the G9, but instead of replacing the old model they decided to create a new model to sell alongside it - this is the G9x.The only change in the G9x is a new laser sensor that is capable of 5000dpi, has a tracking speed of up to 150 inches/second (depending on the surface used) and works at up to 30g of acceleration. That compares to the G9 with its 3200dpi laser engine, maximum tracking speed of 65 inches/second and maximum of 20g. Both sensors have a polling rate of 1000Hz, or 1/1000th of a second between scans.
Other than that the mice are the same - they both come with the two basic shells, both support custom colour LEDs and both have the weight mechanism.
At the moment Logitech are offering the same retail price of $99 for both mice so the argument of G9 vx G9x is easy - buy the G9x and if you don't want 5000dpi just lower the maximum with the driver software. However, other retailers might not be charging the same, so if there's a price difference you have to decide if you want to pay extra for the G9x and its 5000dpi.

- Overall it is a good mouse, but one thing that let's this mouse down is the middle mouse click. it is the worse button ever made by logitech on this mouse. it's very hard to press it down, and the up-down scroll is super sensitive. So when ur playing fps game and you want to press middle mouse for a certain action, it changes your weapon first because of super sensitive scroll wheel. Still loving my newer version of MX518.

- I've always wanted to give this a test drive but I don't know if a claw grip is really the right way to go about it with me.

- I have a G9x and couldn't be happier. It's so smooth its insane especially when a good mousepad is added its a dream. Because I always have my sensitivity settings preset I don' have a problem with placement but I can see where others would complain. The only thing that I didn't always like is the overall size of the mouse. Those with big hands like myself might take time to get used to the size. However wants my hand and mouse became one like that of a Na'vi with their bow (<--- Avatar reference) *ah em* So yeah I'd recomend this mouse to anyone.

- Whatever about the 800x600. That is your issue Tom. Get the G9x then. I have used the G9 for my 1920x1200 monitor with no issues and found 3200 dpi to be almost too much. I guess I am not as precise as some. I however have gone back to Razer as I prefer the palm method of mousing and the G9 is hard to do that with. It is a great mouse and I love the customizable LED color. All mice should have that option.
