A review of the Logitech S220 2.1 computer speakers

I recently purchased these Logitech S220
computer speakers and decided to do a quick review of them. Like many people I first checked the reviews on Amazon.com
and read a bunch to see what people thought about the S220. I compared it with the Altec Lansing BXR1121 at Amazon as well. Both looked like great speakers from the numerous great reviews, but since the Logitech S220s were a little cheaper I decided to go with them.

My review of the Logitech S220 speakers

Well worth the money!

As an audiophile, I am amazed at how inexpensive it is becoming to get great speakers. It used to be that you had to pay $1000s of dollars and have huge wood boxes to get good sound, but technology has really changed the ballgame a bit.

The S220s have 2 speakers that sit up on your desk and are about 5-6 inches tall and 2-3 wide. The subwoofer sits on the floor. Together they really produce a nice full sound that is surprising when you look at them.

The S220 subwoofer has an adjustable volume knob so you can turn the bass off or way up. Thankfully it has the volume knob, because with the bass all the way up, this thing just puts out too much bass for my tastes.

One of the things I love about them is the little control unit thingy. If you look in the picture, it is the circular looking thing. It has a volume knob to turn the music on or off, but it also has a microphone input and a headphone output. This is great because it is always right in reach. I don't have to reach down to my computer case to plug in headphones or a mic. Way to go Logitech - great idea!

How does the S220 sound?

Better low end and better highs than my previous speakers

Before I purchased Logitech's S220 I was using a bookshelf stereo that had speakers about 4-5 times as large as the S220s. By separating the tweeters and sub the s220 is able to deliver much crisper highs and a whole lot better sounding bass than my bookshelf system. The beautiful thing is that it takes up a fraction of the space! I have a desk again!! Woo Hoo!!

Other computer speakers worth looking at

There are a lot of computer speakers out there...

I liked the S220, but don't let that be the end of your search. Check out these other computer speakers as well... The S220 was the cheapest one I found that had 4.5 stars on Amazon and included a subwoofer.

But if you want to spend $50-$100, there are a few other speaker systems to consider...

Logitech 970175-0403 Z-4 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer (Black)
