Lo, How a Rose e'er Blooming
This was my father's favorite Christmas carol and it has always been mine too. Whether in German (Es ist ein Ros entsprungen) or in English it is so sublimely beautiful that I never tire of hearing it. The symbolism of Christ as the rose is exquisite and the allusion to the prophecy in Isaiah (Isaiah 11:10 helps to tie Advent and Christmas together in the complex text.
