    my future mother in law use lol for alots of love tho and everytime she text me she always put lol in the end of text i was like '' why does she always put lol in the end of every text?'' then my fiance told me it was stand for alots of love!! LOL ok i got it :D

    "LOL" can get overused, but it can also be useful. So... I don't really support it all that much (even though I use it a lot), but I'm not gonna criticize it either. Y'know?

    "lol" is Dutch for having a bit of fun so, it's English equivalent would be "lark".

    So if a Dutchman says lol, it means your joke is really not that funny at all (at least not in a "Laughing Out Loud" sense)

    i use lol way to much but it makes it seem like your still interested in talking to someone and makes them feel better , i say it out loud sometyms, it always gets a laugh , i dont see why everyone has a problem with it .. if they dont like it then dont use it ... thats something else i do to much use '...' when i take a break in what im saying when i should really put , so is everyone going to kick up a fuss about that ... no ... lol!

    I try to avoid using that at all costs. My preference is definitely to just us "haha". Another phrase I hate at work is "Please Advise".

    haha i think using lol when you're not actually laughing is okay. My girlfriend uses lol for that, and alol (actually laughing out loud) for when she really is. lol. hahaha xD

    Hm, I weighed in up there, but don't see my blurb. So here 'tis again (sorta).... I say sure, use "lol" even if, in reality, all you did was "hmpf" or "pshh" or "heh." If it made just one corner of your mouth tweek upward, I say "lol" away. Now, "rotflmao" on the other hand. You'd best be pickin' up dust bunnies with your shirt if you type THAT.

    I'm on an email group with several Nordic types who rarely laugh out loud. We have a new acronym for times when the humor makes them almost lose their Nordic dignity and actually laugh: nLOL for "Nearly Laughing Out Loud."

    5* for making me LOI and nLOL too!

    Many years ago when I worked in Aging Services we provided services to LOM's and LOL's. When our granddaughter started using LOL in her emails I was seriously confused because I could not figure out how what she was talking about had anything to do with "little old ladies." Today, my wife uses Missy LOL as one of her IM characters. Our old friends get it but the young folks just think she is laughing all the time! Another generation gap, say what?

    lol is wicked :) i always use it even when im not laughing its also a good silence breaker or when youve got nothing to talk about on msn or any chat room on the internet. Theres nothing wrong with using lol because everyone knows that you dont always laugh at everything so :P lol x
