**********Custom orders now being accepted***********

I am a self-representing jewelry artist.  Lone Star Gemstones is my company.  I've been in love with jewelry and gemstones all my life.  I started selling my designs and gems on eBay in 2005.  I had a lot of fun, and developed an excellent reputation there, but, like many other frustrated store owners, I closed my store there when the fees went up yet again.

I found a wonderful new home at Main Street Mall.  I just love the friendly, helpful, and caring community that has built up there.  When you come to visit Lone Star Gemstones, be sure to visit the many other sellers there in the mall.

We have added many new items to our store over time including our CZ (cubic zirconium) line of jewelry; an extensive line of sterling silver jewelry; and our custom, hand-made, color gemstone jewelry: "Jordan Custom Jewelry". Be sure to check out our other lens where you can see a gallery of some of our favorites.

Basic Gemstone Shapes

Round

The most familiar, simplest, and some say the most beautiful, cut is the round brilliant. The brilliant cut has 58 facets, and has been scientifically found to reflect the most light from within the stone. Other shapes can also be cut in the brilliant: heart, pear, oval and marquise.

Oval

The oval cut is just that: oval in shape. It is most often cut in the brilliant style, but other styles in this shape are possible.

Pear

The pear shape is, again, just that: pear shaped, or tear-drop shaped. The diamond or gemstone comes to a point at one end, and the other end is quite rounded. Again, this shape is typically cut in the brilliant, 58 facet, style, but other styles are possible.

Marquise

The marquise shape is a double-pointed, boat shaped stone. It is thin, with a point on each end, and gently curving sides. It was developed in the 18th century, when the French King Louis XV had a stone commissioned that was "reminiscent of the lady's smile", to be given as a gift to his mistress the Marquise de Pompadour.

Heart

The heart shape is a modified pear. The pointed end remains, and a cleft is added to the round end of the gem to create the familiar heart shape. This cut is a favorite for Valentines Day and Sweetheart rings.

Emerald

The emerald cut, so-called because it was originally used for emeralds, is a rectangular step-cut with cropped corners. Step-cutting refers to cutting facets in rows that resemble the steps of a staircase. The emerald cut, used with many stones today, is principally used to enhance the color of a stone, rather than its brilliance. As a result, emerald cut stones tend to "flash", rather than sparkle.

Princess

The princess cut is a squared version of the brilliant cut. It combines the fire of brilliant cut, and the sophistication and color depth of the emerald cut. A timeless favorite.

Trilliant

The trilliant is a triangle-shaped stone. Typically, all three sides are equal, but variations are frequently seen. Ideally, all three sides are equal in length, and the girdle edges curve gently from point to point.

Cabochon

The cabochon features a smooth, rounded surface, rather than facets, and the bottom is typically flat. Nearly any basic gem cut shape is possible with the cabochon, including round, oval, square, marquise, pear and heart. Cabochon cuts are ideal for the more opaque gemstones such as jade, turquoise, opaque rubies, and opals.

Baguette

The baguette is an elongated rectangle that is step cut with unclipped corners. They are typically smaller stones, and are usually used to surround and enhance larger, main stones in a piece of jewelry.

There are also tapered baguettes that are shaped like a trapezoid in which one of the short sides is longer than the other short side.

Radiant

The radiant is a hybrid cut mixing the best of the emerald cut and the princess cut. It is shaped like an emerald cut, but has many more facets. The radiant cut consists of 70 facets, making it even more brilliant than the the brilliant cut.
