Connect with Your Grandkids: Fun Ways to Bridge the Miles - Book Review
I live in Pennsylvania and my grandchildren live in New England. It's a 6 to 7 hour drive from my home to visit them, so I can use all the help I can get to connect and stay actively involved with my 3 grandkids.
I purchased and read Connect with Your Grandkids: Fun Ways to Bridge the Miles to help manage the challenges of living hundreds of miles from my beloved family. The topics covered in the Table of Contents provide plenty of guidance for grandparenting - whether you live nearby or hundreds of miles from your grandkids. The book was published in March, 2009 by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. and is widely available for purchase (including from Amazon.com).
I did quite a bit of book research to find a good resource for this topic and chose this paperback because the author, Cheri Fuller, has written dozens of helpful parenting and family life books and articles plus she is a popular speaker and Christian woman's counselor. There's a blog that goes along with the book, where Cheri adds new insightful tips every month.
Join me if you're a grandparent or about to be a grandparent - local or long distance. This book should help us find tips on how to connect with your grandkids and find fun ways to bridge the miles - we can share our own experiences and ideas, too.
Let me know if you've read this book or plan to read it in the future. It's an easy read paperback at only about 200 pages.
Memorable Words About Being a Grandparent
"The best thing to spend on your grandchildren is TIME."
Making Memories with My Grandchildren
I have fond memories of my Nana - I want my grandkids to have that experience, too.

In Chapter One of Connect with Your Grandkids: Fun Ways to Bridge the Miles, I found a line that really struck a chord with me:
"We can make a tremendous difference in the lives of our grandsons and granddaughters, whether they are two or eighteen, simply by believing in them and staying connected."
I really feel the connection between grandparents and grandchildren is important. I had a close relationship with my maternal grandmother until she passed away when I was 19; I want to try to create the same type of good memories for my grandchildren as I have about my Nana.

Whether you live 10 miles or 10,000 miles away from your grandkids, you want to have a special bond with them. But sometimes that's not easy. Today's young families often move at a frenzied pace, so even if you live in the same town it can be hard to connect. If you live thousands of miles away, you have additional challenges.

Nice lens! I too am a long-distance grandparent. Sometimes it's hard to enough to connect and get involved even when you live in the same vicinity, much harder when you are separated by some several hundreds miles. Nevertheless, though, it's a rewarding, worthwhile challenge that I enjoy, and helpful, creative thoughts on how to best accomplish this is always appreciated. Thanks for sharing!

I'm now working hard to stay connected with 3 grandchildren who live more than 300 miles from my home. Lucky for me they live within a few hours of one another, so when I drive to visit I can split my time between their homes, or have them all at once for a day!

- Well, not exactly a grandparent, but a great-grand-aunt! So thankful for the internet age in that such connections can be made stronger ... and more often. Have to plug Skype!
