Long Island Gourmet Coffee

Gourmet coffee is made from the highest quality coffee beans. High quality coffee beans are cultivated and processed with diligent loving care to preserve the distinctive and unique taste and aroma characteristic to gourmet coffee.

Most gourmet coffees are produced from Arabica coffee beans.

Personally, for me, all coffee is gourmet, as long as it is strong, flavoursome, rich and not instant. Yeah, I have just showed myself to be a coffee lover, but no expert or connoissear.

Daily Coffee

Do you know which coffee you are going to order when you walk into the coffee shop? Do you always order the same coffee or does it depend on your mood? Which is it - a latte, cappuccino, americano, espresso or something different altogether? What do these terms mean?

Espresso
An Espresso is generally served in a small cup and is prepared by forcing hot water under high pressure through coffee that has been finely ground. An espresso is quite a thick beverage.

An espresso can be served on its own as can be seen in the photo above and is usually served with a glass of water. With espresso as the base various other "coffees" are prepared by blending the espresso with milk and or water. The following are some of these blends that we love to drink.

Caffe Latte
A Caffe Latte is a single shot of espresso in steamed milk. The ratio of espresso to milk is 1 to 3.

Cappuccino
A Cappuccino is made with one third espresso, one third steamed milk and one third frothed milk. A Cappuccino is often sprinkled with flaked chocolate or cocoa powder.
Americano
An Americano is made by mixing a single shot of espresso with an equal amount of water. In reality though an americano is often made with more water than coffee.

Personally my favourite is an Americano and occasionally I enjoy a Capuccino or Latte. Which do you prefer?

I too love coffee! I grew up in western MT and love Montana Coffee Traders. They roast their own beans. My fav is the Glacier Blend - a hint of vanilla!
