Long Hair

Long hair!

Many people want it, but not to many people have it!

Whether you're an aspiring long hair, or tried and true this is the place for you.

Long hair is a mystery.  It can be awe inspiring, while at the same time it can inspire disgust and outrage.

You wouldn't believe how many people have come up to me and told me that I needed to cut my hair.  Or how many people have stopped and told me how beautiful it was.

Many people believe that once a woman gets past "a certain age" they should cut their hair.  I am not one of those people.

Many people also believe that long hair makes a woman look childish, and that women need to cut their hair in order to be taken seriously in the workplace.

Again, I am not one of those people.I think long hair is beautiful, and there are many ways to effectivly, stylishly, and even elegantly.

Do you think you get treated differently because of your long hair?

I've had several people find my site by searching for "rights for people with long hair."

I've also noticed that people will give me funny looks, or talk about my hair when I'm in public.

Sometimes people will stop and say it's nice, which is nice.

But I've also had coworkers tell me in a roundabout way that I should cut my hair if I wanted to get ahead in the business world - of course in that job there was no where to go, so it wasn't a big deal.

Have you noticed that people treat you differently because you have long hair?

Yes

xisniel says:

In public I notice especially little girls whispering to each other 'how beautiful that girl's hair is' and giving me a shy look. Some girls have even come to me to try if it's real. At the airports, where people generally are more social, people randomly stop and compliment my hair. It's nice, but there are also those who are just jealous...

keepingscore says:

Yes, people are treated differently depending on the condition of their hair. You have a typo above I'm sure you'd like to catch, serching- try searching. A real nice read.

MrsBunt says:

Yes. People have definitely treated me differently. My hair is at a length past my waist and people I don't even know stop & comment on it all the time. It can be anything from a compliment to an insult. Some tell me to cut it off and others have even asked me how I use the bathroom without peeing on my hair...lol I've heard it all. :)

Clipperguy says:

People definetly react to hair. I am the short hair guy and people respond to all hair types.

ajjalei says:

I have had both short, short hair and long hair. I am treated like a hot, sexy woman with long hair. With short hair, I am given strange looks and treated as a child. I am not taken seriously unless I have long, straight hair. I find it disgustingly shallow. It affects my confidence and makes me depressed.

No

pheonix76 says:

I haven't been, but I am a student, and my hair is usually up. I can see how some people may think of long hair as being "unprofessional" looking, but it's really no one else's business. :D

LotusMalas says:

My ex had long hair for years and it never prevented him from getting job or advancing in his interests.

Cutting long hair

If you've had long hair for a while, you've probably had the unfortunate experience of going to the salon, and asking for a trim, only to end up with half your hair gone by the time the overzealous hair dresser got through with your hair.

If you're like me, this has probably scared you away from traditional hairdressers, and it might have even made you brave enough to try to cut your own hair.

I just cut my hair for the first time using Feye's Self trim instructions, and I am really impressed with how my hair looks.

I can't draw a straight line, but my self trim actually turned out great!

Before I did step 2 my hair was really slanted, but I was easily able to fix the problem and now I have a straight cut, instead of my former fairy tell ends.

The only problem with the cut is that no one even noticed I did it...when you go from fairytale ends, to a stright across cut, and take off 4 inches of hair, you'd think someone would notice...but I guess not.

That also means I must have done a good job, since no one has commented on my crooked hair, and trust me, with my family, they'd tell me!

If you trim your own hair, I'd love to hear about your technique!

Oh yeah - Feye also has instructions for a U Shaped Self Trim, and a V Shaped Self Trim, you can see them at Feye's Self Trim.

Up

Clipperguy says:

short. Long hair put up is really short hair anyway!

AdrianaCopaceanu says:

Almost always up! Can't stand it getting in my face.

Chocolover22 says:

My hair is very long because I have never cut it...it does get in the way alot and it frizzes so I prefer to wear it up...I have worked with it alot and have many quick updos that also look good :) When I know I'm not going to be doing much I'll wear it down but i never forget my brush because it is an endless cycle of brushing out frizz and tangles! I <3 my hair though..:)

Tiddledeewinks says:

I wear it down most of the time, but on special or some church occasions and hot, sticky days, I like it up in a bun or French braid.

fliss says:

I have such long hair it is too annoying to have down!

Down

xisniel says:

Down. It gets all tangled if I wear my hair up in any way.

rhodacks says:

I like my hair up so it's mess free

lovelylashes says:

Down, it frames my face better plus it's no fuss.

EelKat says:

During the cooler months of early spring and late fall, I keep my hair in a ponytail.

During the winter it stays down all the way.

tandemonimom says:

My hair is almost always down, though I usually pull the front back in a little clippie. I braid at night, and occasionally in the daytime. Rarely up - IMHO one of the primary reasons for having long hair is: COMB AND GO!
