Let Me Know If You Found This Lens Helpful Or Not

From the lens Long Term Care For People You Love.

Let me know what you found useful and what you would like to have more of. I aim to please. Like I said in my introduction, I don't want anyone else to go through what my family did in '93.

Appreciating your topic. Valuable ! I just did a few lenses on health care topics. Your topic is a subset of health care reform 2012. Your topic very important. Hope it is addressed carefully. Thanks.

Yes, effort you made through this lens is certainly should get appreciation and this was a well written blog for me on senior care that i enjoyed while reading. I Think most people are still not aware of long term care and the financial matter related to long term care that's why liked the lens. people who are either going to have care at their own home or going to care homes should be aware of what long term care means.
  • Ladymermaid Oct 14, 2011 @ 7:03 am | delete
Great information for seniors and caregivers on aging and long term care options. You always provide an indepth look at your topics.

Some good information here for people in this situation. My brother went into a nursing home at 59 due to a stroke. It's been a tough adjustment for him as he was used to a very active life.
  • thinkingaloud Aug 12, 2011 @ 3:49 pm | delete
Most care homes won't allow residents to bring their pets with them when they go into care. Why? The benefits outweigh the disadvantages and make the transition from independent living to care home so much smoother as a new series of films show. See blog post at http://www.justfilm.co.uk/wp/2011/08/12/new-films-about-pet-friendly-care-homes/
  • Frankster Aug 12, 2011 @ 4:33 pm | delete
I'm glad to see they are realizing how much benefit pets can be. It would definitely make the transition easier to have a loved pet come too. All those purrs and slobbery kisses are invaluable. Thanks for sharing.

Janet, this is the most comprehensive lens I've seen thus far. I know I'll be coming back here often. I write about all types of medical topics on my lens, but I won't be writing about LTC because you have COVERED it! I'd have nothing left to add :-) This lens has given me something to aspire to. Best always...Dr. Katz

This is a helpful lense when it comes to this particular topics and I lvoe the jokes, serves as a commercial in this pretty long lense. As of the moment, I am deciding if I should bring my mother to a foster home, and this book is really interesting to read and the author is someone you can rely on to give factual and reliable information because of her experiences and background. I will be getting a copy of this book. Thanks for sharing this information.

Just last week my uncle was hospitalized due to a heart attack, to keep the family in the loop about how he was doing his son started a page on http://www.caringbridge.org. We are able to read daily journals and leave our notes in his guest book. Sadly my uncle has passed away, and my cousin continues to use Caring Bridge to keep us all informed about how the family is doing, as well as information about his memorial. I thought you might like to feature this wonderful service for families facing the same issues.
  • Frankster Nov 21, 2010 @ 7:30 pm | delete
I"m sorry for the loss of your uncle. I'm glad you found a way through Caring Bridge to keep in touch with family during this sad time. Thank you for telling me about them. I will definitely add them to this lens in the hopes it will help others. Bear hugs, Frankie

Longterm healthcare is very important for the elderly residents. And since these plans are specially designed for people who are at a greater risk of falling sick, it is important that these policies are purchased with great care.

This is a very interesting lens. It provides useful information on long term healthcare but the presentation of it makes it an interesting read. Healthcare coverage for the old and the senior citizens is an important and delicate issue and one needs to be extremely sure of the plan before buying one

I like this lens very much. It is extremely important for people to be prepared. I have not experienced what you and your family went through but for more than 10 years now my family and I have been caring for our father who has a heart condition. It was very difficult during the 1st year, given the constant visits to the hospital but we have managed or better yet, we have gotten used to it. Now, we are no longer troubled with what to do or how to take care of him because we are very much prepared.
  • Frankster Aug 18, 2010 @ 10:59 am | delete

Oops! When I went to give 5 stars, I discovered that I had already done so. I visited your lens way back in 2007 and left a comment. If you want a classic example of "senior moments"......I resemble that remark. This time I will put you where I can't lose you.

Wow. I don't know how I have missed seeing this lens. As I have several babyboomer and retiree lenses I am always looking for other aging related lenses to feature. This is a definite winner and I would like to feature it on my latest lens on Older Americans Month. You have gathered a wealth of information on a subject that many older people don't even want to think about. Loved the interspersal of the jokes, a reminder that we need a healthy dose of laughter always.
5 LTCs, a featured lens and much socializing. (I will also include the link you gave and add this to a couple of my lenses. Thanks.)

Excellent, excellent lens. I've been on both sides of this topic -- a long term care nurse and a family member with a loved one in a nursing home. This is a complex topic and you did a wonderful job of presenting the information. 5, fave, lensroll to my related lenses.

This is a great lens full of positive imformation and I love the jokes. We as a family decided on a nursing home for my mother soom after my father passed and it was a very difficult time as we didn't know the correct procedue and there is no hand book that covers this situation. There is a lot of guilt involved although you know that you have made the right decision.

Wow, what an incredibly extensive, helpful lens! I'm currently my widowed mother's caregiver. Thankfully, she's still able to live alone, but our home and hers are close by. I do her driving, errands, and many things around and inside her home, and even more so now that she just got her hip replaced. She's more than once said to me,"Promise me I'll always be able to stay in my own home." I've promised, but in the not-so-back of my mind, I wonder if it will be possible. But I guess we'll cross that bridge when or if we come to it.

What a wonderful lens and tribute to your father. I like that you incorporate humor into a very serious topic. As a caregiver, I use humor a lot, but most people don't understand. There is so much here, I'll be back to check out more. I couldn't lense roll to my elder care lens because it is just now going live, but gave 5 *'s. I ran across your lens as I was searching for other related sites.

You have an Great lens I have worked in the health care industry for 30 years and for the last 10 have been taking care of my mom and know first hand the trials and tribulations you go through daily. Until 4 years ago we had no medical coverage and the pay was a joke or should I say an Insult. We now have Medical coverage but the dental and vision coverage is a big joke(insult)
My mom requires 24/7 care but I get paid for just 4 hour's of care a day. I have not had a day off in 3 years, I would loose my hours if I took time off so I stay home. That's why I started my lens's on Depression and Stress, I had to have something to keep my mind active. People ask me why I don't put my mom in a Nursing home and my reply is to ask them if they have ever been in a nursing home and seen what it's like, if they haven't I tell them to go visit one and they will have my answer.
I think your lens is very helpful and does a lot of good. 5 stars

Care giving for people we love is a taxing experience. It requires patience, strength and above all love. In the best of circumstances, the person who gives care should also be able to rely on a network of friends for support but we all know how difficult and insufficient this can be.

    Thank you for your insight.

This is very good information. I have seen 3 close relatives go through this kind of thing when they were past the stage of being able to care for themselves. From my point of view, one big consideration is the person left in charge. They need to have some fun in their lives, and some time off from the responsibilities also.

My parents are both in poor health, my mum is 88 and has dementia, my dad is 90, and trying to look after her despite his own frail physical health. He refuses to put her in a nursing home, as he once promised her he wouldn't, and won't break his word. The task is killing him, despite all efforts from me and my sister to ease his load. We can't be there 24/7.It breaks my heart to see their situation. There is no easy answer to such a problem. Have fun while you can.

If I may, I would emphasize though the importance of proper hydration for yourselves and your loved ones. A technique I was taught about a year ago is to drink six glasses of water (it's difficult when you are starting!) first thing in the morning. Then wait about 45 minutes or an hour (while you are getting ready) to eat or drink anything else. Then continue drinking clean pure water the rest of the day as normal. This technique stimulates all the internal organs and brings them rapidly to prime condition. You will feel the difference in a few days. Also another tip is to take ice cold showers. It will feel you with super energy and also make you sleep better at night.

    Many blessings to all,

    Art Gonzalez

This is very good information. I have seen 3 close relatives go through this kind of thing when they were past the stage of being able to care for themselves. From my point of view, one big consideration is the person left in charge. They need to have some fun in their lives, and some time off from the responsibilities also.

Thanks for such valuable informations, 5stars to you. I will like to add to your Lens that sometimes it becomes realyl hard while trsveling with a handicapped family member. However, one of these wheelchairs is not necessarily meant to be your primary wheelchair. Travel Wheelchair are smaller and lighter, and they often are not as durable. But for their cheap price, they do afford you the ability to never be without a wheelchair, even when your full-sized, motorized wheelchair is at home
