Everyone uses the internet as a major research tool these days and virtually every business that needs brand awareness has a website and can be located online. It isn't just e-commerce websites that need a website, often small companies that simply want to improve brand awareness or act as an information resource have a website.

Website information is also referred to as content and its that content that needs updating. Imagine if a visitor goes to your site and sees dates for an event that had happened months ago - that information (or content) could damage your reoutation as you would across to potential visitors as either lazy due to the outdated information or not up-to-date with the latest infomation and news.

If a business regardless of size is not keeping their website updated then as a potential customer you may worry what they are like to do business with. If you were able to keep to update that content yourself the task would be alot easier.

The company website runs smoothly and seems to work perfectly. This is usually the case until you want to amend existing content on your website. This could be in the form of a new promotion to adding a new member of staff to the website. All of this involves new content creation and therefore the website 'backend' or content management system needs amending.

If you have a technical/IT department who built the site it might be a case of a few tweaks from the technical team. Alot of companies have technical teams that work within a business. However, I think we have all been there when a technical department is supporting customers - it is those customers that often take priority over the business needs of amending some content.

Another option, which is preferred by many small, medium and large companies is to opt to manage their own CMS. This is often a great investment as it means all the employees can manage content and make small amendments without having to go to an external company or department.

As we have discussed before, it would still be a good idea to source a local company to build and integrate your CMS in the first instance. If you are local to Birmingham then consider using a Birmingham based company and if you are based in Coventry try using a local company for your CMS Coventry.
