HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Leaving a kid in a hot car to die IS neglect!!

Have you heard of these cases where parents are 'accidently' leaving their kids in hot cars all day long, and they are not being charged when the kid dies? This is driving me crazy and that is why I am making this lens.

I have heard of a few of these cases in my neighboring state, Ohio, and the DA is saying that these parents cannot be charged with the death of their child, because it is not negligent. WHAT!?? I am very upset and I think that something needs to be done to the law, where these women are charged with something. I mean come on, they are practicly telling those parents who do want to 'get rid' of their kids,

Let's get the word out there!!!

I don't want to hear about one of these incidents happening again. Here are some great products to help remind people to check their backseats. Get them, give them, let's get the word out.

Do you agree?

Leaving a kid in a hot car to die IS neglect!!

Yes, you're right!

mutter says:

Absolutely! How could anyone let that happen if they have any love for their child?

JustAls says:

totally.

Sarah says:

Yes its neglect, these mothers claim oh I was so busy an my routine varied sad excuse after excuse. I am a young single mother a full time college student and I work and I would never forget my little girl. What upsets me even more is that Ohio has a negligent homicide law and we are not using it on these women cause they didnt use a fire arm or explosive. Hell if you leave your kids ain your car and they DONT die you get child endangerment, but if your baby dies your scott free and suffering enough? It is completely asinine to me and I think both Joe Deters and the Clermont County Prosecutor are out of line for not bringing charges. Im doing a research project on negligent homicide in relativity to child hypothermia if you have any interesting material please shoot me an email at webers2@email.uc.edu

fefe says:

I can't believe people do that!

Runningbandit says:

LOL, Leaving a kid anywhere to Die is illegal and I bet a little bit more then neglect.

Mortira says:

Leaving a kid ANYWHERE unattended is neglect, let alone in a vehicle, which is dangerous even in mild weather. I don't even leave my son to put clothes in the wash!

sarahjjac says:

Definitely!! Let's punish these people!

No way, Monkeybrain!

bgamall says:

It could be neglect, but lets face it, the kid's seat used to be in the front. Out of sight out of mind. Not saying it is right, just saying it is an accident waiting to happen. This never used to happen when kid's car seats could be placed in the front.

As a Parent....

Do you think you could EVER forget that your child was in the car with you?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

NO WAY!

MAC1953 says:

No. I actually feel he is in the car when he isn't. That is how much I am used to having him with me. Maybe for these people drugs, exhaustion, doing too many things in each day etc. are partial causes. Sure some are negligent but I hope that most of them truly forgot....but I don't see how. For me the loss of a child by my fault would be more punishment than anything else.

mutter says:

No way!I couldn't even forget a dog, let alone another human being!!

Mortira says:

I've heard of parents with 3 or more kids forgetting that they have a new baby once in awhile - by the 3rd kid all of the fear has been worn out of you. I still don't think I could forget my child for 30 seconds, let alone long enough to overheat and die.

sarahjjac says:

Never. I even check the backseat when they aren't with me!

Maybe

Do you look in the backseat even when your kids aren't with you?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

yes

Mortira says:

Of course! I can't even get through one night without checking on his breathing at least once. Some good habits are too important not to make and stick to.

sarahjjac says:

yep

no

Why aren't these people being charged???

Be honest here....

Would you catagorize this as neglect?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Heck yeah!

sarahjjac says:

Yes I would!

Not really

Do you think that parents who leave their kids in cars to die, should be charged?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

Definitely

Runningbandit says:

Of course they should be charged.

Mortira says:

I think that anyone who "accidentally" causes another person's death should face consequences. It's up to a judge to decide how severe, but they definately should go through the legal system and be given a criminal record. Death by stupidity is still death!

sarahjjac says:

yes I do.

No

bgamall says:

No. But there should be a campaign to remind them by advertisement. Just put it on a billboard in every town.

If you lose a child you love, you will be punished the rest of your life.

What kind of punishment would you recommend?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

hard time

Runningbandit says:

Can't we just leave them in a locked car to die also.

Mortira says:

In the case of children, prison is the obvious solution. There is no excuse for harming a child, ever. Falling asleep at the wheel and hitting an adult...maybe a LOT of community service.

community service

Please Remember

Don't forget to do what you can to make sure things like this happen no more! Innocent children are being killed because of forgetfullness. Come on!

Tell a story.. if you have one!

Do you know anyone who has left their child in the car all day?

Loading Fetching blurbs now... please stand by

yes

Mortira says:

My parents let me stay in the car once, near the end of a long day of shopping. It wasn't hot, but by the time they came back, I needed a bathroom break so bad I thought I was going to die. We were also in a big city that was unfamiliar to me - I think now that I was lucky to still be in that car when they came back. And I thought times had changed since then.

no

sarahjjac says:

nope

Just so you know!

I am not trying to critize anyone. I do understand that maybe one or two of these deaths could happen in a years time and not be neglect. But, I am putting my point out there, that parents need to be more cautious of their children.

I think that people who do this should be charged. We can never really say whether it was an accident or not. I think that allowing these parents to go free, is giving a bad message to everyone!

*How do we know if these people did this on accident? Shouldn't we show, by punishment, that people need to pay more attention when they have children in the car at all?

Your Thoughts?

What do you think about this lens? Any ideas?

Sites like this are good, because parents should be educated now that the law makes kids stay in the back seat, which I personally oppose.

Very important subject. Leaving kids in hot cars for a long time is obviously negligent. Can't believe the parents aren't charged - though of course the death of the child itself is punishment enough. Perhaps that's why it's not prosecuted? But I would put those parents under surveilance if there are other kids involved.
