Loons calling in Canada
Loons in Canada are protected by law and can not be hunted.
Loons subsist entirely on a diet of fish and other aquatic animals. For this reason, they are particularly susceptible to the damaging effects of air and water pollution.
The loon is featured on stamps and on the Canadian Dollar.
Quick fact: Loons require a long "runway" of open water to pick up speed before taking off and getting airborne.
