About Lorain County, Ohio

Located in the State of Ohio, Lorain County is just west of Cuyahoga County and is often described as being part of the Greater Cleveland Ohio area. Lorain County was named after Lorraine, a province of France. Heman Ely, a settler who also named Lorain County, is the namesake of the Lorain County Ohio seat: the City of Elyria. Although Elyria is the Lorain County seat, its biggest city is actually the City of Lorain, which rests on the southern shore of Lake Erie.
